    Router recommendation required

I'm in the process of changing ISP's and it's likely i'll need to purchase a router, as my previous routers were all provided by the ISP.

Is there any "best" router for gaming purposes? I'm a complete newbie at looking at that side of things.

My needs are direct Ethernet connection, and capability for connecting (but not necessary running at the same time) up to 5 wireless connections. Laptop, PS3, iphone etc.

I'm not overly limited by cost, although obviously i'm not splashing out for some NASA spec router that has 10 times more capability than i'll ever need.

The brand I would personally recommend is Linksys but I'm sure some other people will have other opinions. You don't need anything above wireless g speeds unless you plan on doing a lot of network transfers. Also, if you are looking to game on your laptop and take advantage of wireless N speeds, you will need to buy a wireless N network card for it which will also cost you additional $$ since most laptops and other hardware tech come with a wireless G card.

Those are the two that I would recommend.

Here is a Wireless N MIMO Linksys router:

Linksys and D-link are usually considered the best in the business. Linksys had some problems a few years back, but have been rock solid since they were bought by Cisco.

Agreed, I'd go for a Linksys router, for example:
    Linksys WRT320N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router
Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

This is a very nice one, though I wouldn't recommand it as it has no N-draft support, which is sort of the future :>

I have to differ. We had only troubles with those brands for the past 5 years. Especially the home user models.
The only routers and switches we use are 3Com, excellent service, excellent performance, and since we only use HP hardware and HP bought 3Com it's gotten even better.

So from my personal experience (which might differ from everyone elses) I suggest a 3Com router.

If all you're after is a router, get the Linksys WRT54GL. If you're after an ADSL2+ modem/router, I'd recommend the Netcomm NB6+4WN.

    D-link... the best?
    Their commercial stuff is garbage.

I'm a Netgear kinda of guy myself
I setup a Linksys in a bar a while back, they don;t seem to be having any problems with it.

While I personally like Linksys more then D-Link, D-link is still a good brand and they know how to make routers tbh :> Nothing wrong with them.
