    Low Level - Rage starvation?

    Good day warrior community!

Me (a shaman) and my girlfriend (a warrior) are leveling trough the looking for group system.

Since I am healing and she is tanking we get insta-queues all the time.

The one thing she complains about is that while tanking she is lacking rage to be able to tank decently. The only time she feels she can do something is with bloodrage (The skill that gives you rage, not sure if I use the correct name) up.

Is that a general problem with warriors at low levels or is there something we can improve?

Thanks in advance for some advice!

depends.. is she tanking with a fast or slow weapon? nowadays mobs die rather fast even at low level, so with a slow weapon she wont get many swings off (as in, get a fast weapon, but not a dagger)... and tell her to not use heroic strike at all in low level dungeons if she is.. thunder clap is enough for multiple packs, and just sunder main target once or twice before it's dead.

if she is prot, either getting hit or shieldblocking (first 5 talents in prot) should generally provide enough rage, if not, try using berserker rage during pulls.
at this level weapon choice shouldnt mather much

First, i'd like to ask what "low level" is for you.

2nd, taking the right talents and glyph helps a lot, this is what i would use for leveling in dungeons:

    [LINK] Spec @ Level 27

The main tools are Sunder armor and thunderclap, so this talents + glyph lower the rage needed to use them. Defense is not as important as controlling the mobs, so dont go for armor or parry but for threat and lower costs. She also should use charge + stancedance at every pull. A skilled warrior is back in defstance with the gcd already over when he reaches his target.

    As for weapon speed:
doesnt matter that much since there are no devastates and heroic strike excesses on the lower levels.
Take the weapon with the best stats and dps you can get, should be enough.
2nd Glyph should be the cleave one, it helps a lot in dungeons.

faster weapon = faster swings = smoother rage generation.

Hello rockadin, I am leveling a warrior atm as well and had the same problems at first. What i would do is tell her to respec prot and put 5 points in shield spec and 3 in imp thunderclap. Also i would get glyph of revenge that frees up rage points for herioc strike. With thous changes she should do fine oh and tell her to pull like 4-5 mobs she will have plenty of rage.

The shield spacialization talent got buffed to score you 5 rage per time you
parry dodge or block, so after you get shield block (defensive stance ability)
there shouldnt be a problem. Her threat will still blow till she dings 60.

Re: Low Level - Rage starvation?

as far as being rage starved at low level i would recommend her throwing the first 11 or so points into arms, even if tanking. improved hs since it's the first and most used ability at that level, then put 2 points in deflection to get to next tier and grab improved charge so she starts pulls with more rage. go back and fill out deflection then drop down to anger management.

after that head over to the prot tree and pick up improved blood rage and if still hurting improved defensive stance if it's still an issue.

Re: Low Level - Rage starvation?

I did the same, leveling my warrior alt only by tanking in dungeons (Armory), now he's 60 and finally doesn't have to see brd or lbrs anymore ^^

I agree rage starving is the most annoying for tanking until about level ~25. Beginning with bfd and gnomeregan you should do fine. With bloodrage and shieldblock (with shield specialisation of course) - one of both should be up every pull - you have enough rage for your first thunderclap, and then you get enough rage from being hit - not that it would really matter who tanks until sm or maraudon.

As someone stated, you should use fast weapons, it gives you smoother rage gain. And in the opposite as someone posted above, the best (heirloom) weapon for warrior tanks is the sharpened scarlet kris. There's not a single reason why a dagger would be a worse weapon than anything else for tanking (except of your racials of course, but thats another story).

Resilience scales much better in lower levels than defense rating (for mitigation purposes (crit immunity)), so you should also get the heirloom pvp shoulders.

I do not recommend putting your first points into arms, shield specialisation is the way to go. Use glyph of revenge as your first glyph, then hs is for free, wich increases your aggro and your damage. And you will want to reach devastate, fc and imp ds as fast as possible.

    Hope that helps...

Its the other way around. 1 def rating at lower levels actually will equal out to 1 def or more until your high 50's.

As for the rage starved thing & suggestions on glyphs and such...she should be chain pulling nearly every pull & should be using bloodrage before a pull if you have to take a break. Sunder (replaced by devistate at 50) and thunderclap as its off cooldown and things will die fast & she'll have the mobs on her. Shield Specialization will also help tons in generating rage. Don't worry about doing too much dmg to hold agro at the pre-BC dungeons. Just sunder, tab, sunder, etc & thunderclap when its up and let the dps kill things. Sunder costs less rage than cleave and it is modified to provide more threat which makes it better for holding threat. Mobs will be dead before she even gets 3 stacks up on all the mobs if she follows the sunder/tab/sunder/tab suggestion.

    Wrong.
Daggers are normalized to 1.70 for instant-attacks, regardless of the actual weaponspeed.
Non-daggered 1h's are normalized to 2.40 for instants.
    Devastate is normalized.
