how to up my dps

The mage faq on the mage page is going to be your best friend.

Your meta gem, use http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55389 - other then that your gemming seems fine. minus the hit rating gem in your back.

Drop your boot enchant and pick up http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44491.

you are WAY over hit cap. 17% is capped hit rating.

For arcane you get http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=12840 (3%) and http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=29440 (3%) meaning you need 11% hit rating. because you are a Draenei you get another 1% hit from http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=6562 . Meaning you only need 10% hit. If you raid and have a moonkin ( http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=33602 )or shadow priest ( http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=33193 ) you gain another 3%. meaning you can drop as low as 7%

As for your spec, i would suggest dropping all three points in http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=44397 , and http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=31589 . Student of the mind is a crap talent for three points. Instead i would put those points into http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=12606 (2/2) and http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=44395 (2/3) .

Also for the spec, i would suggest dropping the points in http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=12672 and grabbing http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=28332 (2/2)

Edit: How could i forget. since you have a one handed weapon, http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43987 would be the better enchant.

also, im not 100% sure about the enchants used as an engineer but i think the best enchant for your boots should be http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55016 and http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=54999 for the gloves. as i said, i am not an engineer but i THINK thats correct.

at the moment i am doing 5-5.5k dps is that gd for the gear i have?

If you're concerned with gems, enchants, etc. I would recommend learning to use rawr. It is really simple once you get the basics down and will inform you of the best gems and enchants for you to use based off of your current gear set, not just a general list that people think is best.

Watch the video on the front page and it'll give you enough of the basics about the program to use it effectively.

Just a couple things I noticed right off the bat, I'm gonna guess, since you're a JC, that rawr will favor the 39sp gems pretty heavily. I would never ignore a red socket with a reckless ametrine (12sp, 10 haste) however.

Pop in your toon and see what it says.

Also, I would recommend farming reg ToC for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47213 and replacing your http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50259 . It's a lower item lvl but much better dps overall (as you'll see in rawr). Pretty easy to come by too.
