Building a new pc, looking for advice :)

« Edit : tried to fix the links, and added intention to go Sli later on, added proper fan link, changed ram to a triple memory kit »

I am thinking of building a new pc , and I wanted some pro opinions about it. The system would be for playing WoW and CoD: MW2, and whatever new interesting games will be coming along. I'm aiming for a system of around 1000$ Canadian, so obviously I looked on newegg.ca. I already have a moniter, speakers, keyboard, and mouse. I will probably grab a second video card in the future for Sli setup.

What I want to know is, if anyone has some suggestions on substitutions of any parts that would give a better price/performance value, and if someone would double check to make sure I didn't miss any blaring compatibility issues. With the components I have chosen, I am slightly over budget, any suggestions to reduce cost with minimal performance sacrifice are also appreciated.

Would the sound card be worth it for a basic 2.1, and often headset speaker usage ? I`m guesing the onboard would do the job just fine.

The motherboard you chose supports triple-channel memory so instead of buying a dual-channel kit it might be better to get yourself a triple-channel kit: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820227365

Also, if you can spare a couple more bucks, get a HD4870 instead of a 9800GTX.

650W might be a bit on the low side.

And the links to your DVD drive and the fans are the same

I think you mean a 5870 instead of 4870? Anyway I think 650W is MORE then enough with plenty of room to spare. The only time you're gonna need more is when you are gonna get 2 video cards or more for SLI/X-fire

No, I do mean a 4870. The 5870 is 3 times as expensive and even a 4870 will blow a 9800 out of the water.

I don't know why but I can't open any of the links in the OP. Even if I copy and past them manually.

Anyways, 650W PSU will run that system fine, as long as it's a good one. Since I can't see which one you picked out, I can't give you any feedback but I do think that the Corsair 750HX is a little overkill for his system. However, a Corsair 650TX would be perfect.

I tried to fix the OPs list and failed, has some weird text encoding issues.

I was thinking of getting the 9800 GT for a upgrade to my 8500 GT Nvidia card but I've come to the conclusion that most of you wizard posters are suggesting ATI cards like 4870 and 5870? I'm running a AMD 64 5200 dual and I was told that most AMD cpu's run better with Nvidia.

I don't want to buy a video card where theres a better one with the same price and it blows it out of the water.. I'm basically looking for a really good one that's below $200 Canadian ???

ATI is AMD's graphics branch, I'm not sure if what you were told is correct.

The 4870 is pretty much as good as it gets for your budget, but it's still a very good mid-range card.

    Edit:

    Some Guru3D benchmarks.

Compare "Radeon HD 4870 512MB" (not SLI or X2) to "GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB" (not SLI or GTX+).

According to ythe charts listed, for Crysis, a single 4870 outperforms a single 9800, but is Sli or Crossfire, the 9800 seems to take the lead, am I reading that right ?

I was just looking around a bitmore, and couldn`t see a difference between Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield vs Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield except that the i5 is 100$ cheaper . Am I missing something obvious ?

    also
    Core i5 750 maximum multiplier 20x133 = 2.66 GHz
    Core i7 860 maximum multiplier 21x133 = 2.80 GHz

Alright now that I can see the links...

The PSU you selected will run your system fine right now, however, I would still much rather go with a Corsair 650TX. Reason being is that the Corsair PSU has only one 12v rail while the Antec PSU has 3 seperate rails, which means you will most likely have to watch what you plug in and where you plug it in. Whereas, with the Corsair PSU you don't have to worry about a thing which means better cable management because you won't have to drag out a full set of cables just to plug in 1 or 2 things and leave everything else hanging. Which means better airflow, cooler temps, everyone is happy (except your wallet).

As for the graphics card, I would definitely invest an additional 20 bucks or so into a 5770. It is way better bang for the buck and also performs way better than the 9800GTX.
    This one here looks nice:

CrossFire/SLI means that you have 2 graphics cards linked together so they function as one. A CrossFire/SLI setup will usually out-perform a single graphics card.
