I thought the questlines, learning to summon a voidwalker, succubus, etc. kind of outlined that you're beating them into submission, and then using them as slaves.

When a Warlock summons a demon , the Warlock asks for the demons help.
Warlock gives a soul shard to the demon for appearing , not for how the demon treats him.I think the only reason a demon responds to the Warlocks summon is that the demon gets to spill blood and he gets a yummy soul shard for appearing.

The felguard got his voice from the doomguard...
In vanilla, to summon the doomguard you had to sacrifice a partymember and then enslave the demon... (The lock usually got wtfpwnd by the doomguard)
When we got the felguard talent, blizz gave him the doomguard voice. Leaving the doomguard mute :/

Purely an aside, but I always liked the doomguard model from WC III that Doom Lord Kazzak is modeled after rather than the 'mouth on his stomach' model we have now.
