The Pacific ( Mini series by the creators of band of brothers)

It is similar, although unrelated, to Band of Brothers. Whereas Band of Brothers focused on the United States Army's involvement in the European Theater of Operations, the new series will be about United States Marine Corps's actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

The Pacific is being produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman.

Anyone else frigin excited for next month!!! ;D

Ah so the series finally comes to an end.

10/10 Thats for sure, the final episode had me crying and wanting to re watch the series just to see again how amazing these men were to each other. Its sad to see them all split from each other in the end. They became family together.

I will for sure buy the series and re watch soon.

    The pacific 10/10

Don't watch it for the action but watch it for what they did for us.

The Pacific doesn't compare to Band of Brothers, even closely. It's nowhere as good.

Main problem for me are the characters. BoB was filled with memorable and great characters played by charismatic actors, while Pacific only has about four characters I can even remember the names of (Leckie, Basilone, Eugene Sledge and Snafu) and of those four one pisses me off, one is dead, and only one has made any sort of impression on me. And for the record, Leckie is the one who pisses me off and when he left the series around episode 5 or so, the show got so much better instantly.

The show got progressively better and the best episodes were 7 and 9, but the first 6 episodes were really unimpressive. For some damn reason they chose to depict the whole war in 10 episodes (and waste 2 of those episodes on social porn like the Australia episode.) We get bits of info, and never get the big picture. The episodes are barely linked and most of them end up being random Jap-shooting on an island we don't know the importance of, and it's terrible. Oh how terrible it is. The Pacific really rubs the terrors of war on you face. The conditions are fucked up, people are sick, people are shooting themselves, people are snapping, civilians are being used as suicide bombers and meat shields, etc. etc. etc. Yeah sure war is hell, we get it. But it just don't feel like anything when it gets rubbed into our faces in every damn episode.

The fight scenes weren't all that great either. Especially for the first two episodes, where it mostly concentrated on shooting ducks... I mean japs with a machine gun. Judging by this series, the japanese are the worst fighters ever and seemed to cause more casualties with booby traps than actual fighting. Nevertheless, like I said the best episodes were 7 and 9, and I would've liked to watch more of episodes of such quality. Now, most of the 10 episodes are wasted on either sub-par fighting or watching Leckie cry a river in a bed, pissing his pants while writing letters to a random chick he ran into by accident at his local church.

Quoting from another forum, but I agree:
You get a tiny bit of info each episode from Tom Hanks about whats been going on in the war. Is this there to rub it in your face. "The Japanese just took island x in a grueling battle but you ain't gonna see this, now back to Leckie moaning by letter to a girl he bumped into at the local church by chance"

    EDIT:
Don't watch it for the action but watch it for what they did for us.
Ahahaha, sorry only read this now. So you're basically saying it's not a very good show, but since it's about americans in a war, it's 10/10?

I only managed to watch one episode. While it was good, I had a childish mind at the time. So while soldiers were getting blasted with Artillery, I was saying to my friend "Don't worry, they will re-spawn at the graveyard in 30 seconds and that they were QQing in BG Chat of how OP the Japanese base is and how it should be nurfed".

But seriously, great show. I wish I watched it at the start however.
