A lot of people misread the blue post. They said that plate would be able to throw on a shield and tank for 5 mans, meaning regular.
Not heroics.
Are not the difficulties named:Originally Posted by blargh312

Maybe I remember wrong..

Specifically says raids are out, but nothing about heroics. Methinks they'd probably add "or heroics" to the parenthetical statement if they didn't want them to tank heroics.
But like the guy up there said, Cataclysm is a long way away. These comments don't mean jack shit until we see how this stuff actually works in-game.

Blizz wants lower ques for dungeon finder because dungeon finder is helping all the players get an opportunity to join in the fun of 5 mans, which consequently is critical to help develop a pve community where players can organize into highly coordinated raids and conquer difficult encounters. More tanks=more fun, simple as that and yes at some point each player that plays this game SHOULD learn and know how to tank a 5 man at a very high level of competency. Hell everyone's 1st toon should be automatically be a tanking class IMO!!!!!
You can tank normal 5 mans with a hunter pet. Or a rogue.Originally Posted by blargh312
Heroics will still call for a normal tank specced tank with tank gear. Why? Have you ever tried healing a retadin or dps dk in tank gear, in heroic 5 mans? If you are not overgeared for the instance, the difference becomes noticeable.
Prot paladins do more than enough DPS to be a viable DPS spot in heroics.Originally Posted by Tharidon
I think you meant 'lower the queue times', tank queue times atm are pretty much instant as it is. So if it does anything to 'tank' queues, it'll make them larger.Originally Posted by Athael

it isnt going to change tank que times at all. what it will likely do is let people like me spec ret/holy and just have tank gear. though, i suppose i could do that now and tank ret. w/e
its going to change notheing but leveling i guess. because seriously, if paladin leveling wasnt already super easy, now lets make them uncritable to boot.
Pondering returning.

TBH I think plate DPS classes will be able to tank 5 man normals only. You still need a proper tank for heroics.
As content gets released and the overall level of gear increases, plate DPS classes will also be able to tank heroics.
The newly dinged plate DPS will try to tank heroics and likely get carried by the healer. If the healer is freshly dinged as well, the party fails
Regular nonheroics 5 mans are ALREADY difficulty-scaled so that people with DPS specs/gear can tank them.
...That's already the way it is. When they were developing WOTLK, they said they wanted DKs and ret paladins and such to be able to tank levelling 5 mans, and that the difficulty was set so that would be possible.
They're obviously talking about heroics with this new change, because otherwise, it would be redundant - nonheroic 5 mans are already designed so that a defense-uncapped DPSer in plate can tank them. I do it all the time when leveling alts, and my survivability is, proportionately, about the same as that of my tankadin in a heroic.
As for the "Tank queue times" snafu - I meant overall queue times. It was a slip of the tongue, do you really need to microfocus on semantics? My post as a whole is still a valid point.
Sice they also said some time ago that as a furry warr you can just put a sheild go def stance and tank, i guess for all the classes would be just using the def stance/bear form/RF/Frost presence makes you uncritable in pve :POriginally Posted by Travers
I don't care, I'm the one doing the tanking so I don't have to worry about bads trying to tank.
