Practical would be doing WinterGrasp/BG's for honor or Spending Excess Badges on the Gems...

If there was no other way to obtain Epic Gems then i would agree but you can gain Epic Gems in 3 Major way that are all vary "Practical"Originally Posted by Generate
1: Honor - You can do BG/WG/Arena's and spend that disposable currency on Gems
2: Emblems/Badges - You can spend excess Badge/Emblems on Gems if you do the Random Heroics regulary most people have a large excess of badges already
3: Transmutes - You can watch the AH and pick up the Mats for Transmutes at vary resonable prices and have your local friendly Alc Mute them in to Epics
All of witch take LONGER to get gems are far more Cost effective...
The reason Blue Gems are bad is because of the way Gear is Built by the item designers.... To create a slot on an item of Gear the developer "sacrifices" 16 of a given stat... So if you have a Chest piece with 3 Gem slots the Item Designer at some point decided to reduce the stat(s) of the item by a total of 48 to generate the 3 slots... By placing only Rare Gems your really not improving the item you are simply adding the back the equivalent of 16 stats per Gem slot even if you are placing a +X rating gem, by using a +20 stat item you are improving the Item.
Example if you have 10 Gem slots in your gear and you gem all Rare gems (10 x 16) you will add ~160x stat to your gear, if you use Epic gems (10 x 20) you will add 200x stat yo your gear, 40x Stat can be be vary significant to your charters effectiveness in its role. The more Gem sockets the more effective using top level gems is.

Would you turn down a piece of gear that is identical to your current one except with 4 more haste? I wouldn't.
If you have that much gold with nothing to spend it on, then you're a cheap bastard.
That's almost as bad as the people in entry level epics who refuse to gem their gear with simple green or blue cuts.
"I'm gonna replace it soon anyways" is never a viable excuse.
Stop being cheap and buy the damn gems, you have the gold and you have no excuse not to buy them.
L2P or GTFO
- Gear isn't free, earn it
- I also have opinions regarding this game, you're not special
- LFG Heroics.
pretty pathetic imo, you need to lay this down thinking its your real economy. OFC your cheap. Grats on the Attention.
Depends how much it would cost to enchant/regem, if it was a weapon needing berserking enchant forget about it (In my opinion anyway)Originally Posted by Zulandia
I say it's practical for anyone who isn't in a world first claiming guild, 50 extra dps won't be kill deciding in almost all cases. But hey, if you want to spend the money on maximizing your efficiency by all means go for it. However, if you call someone out for using blue gems then you need to get a reality check and understand its just a game, let people play it how they want to play it.
Count Off! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1!
Choosing to be inferior is pathetic, the only purpose of gold is to augment your ability to succeed in a raid.
My general rule for gemming:
Below ilevel 200= green gems unless the item is actually half decent (question greens basically)
iLevel 200-226: Blue gems unless it's an item from one of the new ice crown instances or one that isn't going to be replaced soon.
iLevel 232+: Epic gems, no excuse to not have them.
My thoughts exactly. You knew the answer before you even made this thread.Originally Posted by Defaith
It depends, really.
Do you do progression raids? If so, you're letting your guild down by not buying those gems. Otherwise, it's not really an issue at all.
I would have to say cheap.
Of course without knowing your guild or gear level its hard to be too critical. But if you have managed to get 40k, it suggests you have been playing for a while, and probably have a character or two in gear which deserves epic gems.
I would have done the same as you. 4 haste for 200g? 50g for one haste? No thanks.

The funny thing is, those people that wouldn't spend the extra money on Epic Gems would probably throw a fit if they were denied loot that was an upgrade of a similar magnitude.
Cheap. Times the 4 over how many gems you have. To save what, game gold? Point of WoW is to be the best toon you can be, in raids and/or pvp, not having the most gold. Try Monopoly.
You could not be more wrong if you tried, so lets take fight like Festurgut10 and say that your running 2 tanks 3 healers 5 DPS. Suddenly that 50 DPS slacking from each of your DPS classes becomes 250 raid DPS, 5 min enrange timer that works out at 750k Which is almost 8% of the bosses health.Originally Posted by Darkskeleton

...Suddenly doesn't sound so ''practical'' to me.
if you upgrade all your gems, you will see a huge difference..
The sooner you spend your gold the sooner you have to go and farm more. Do you really enjoy doing dailies or mining ore for more gold? If you don't like farming gold, it's completely justifiable to not buy epic gems instead of rare gems.Originally Posted by sulfuric

Im a tank so i always buy epic gems as 6 stam time like 20 sockets is nice, my off-set is all blue gems, because im a JC and they are basically free. I make thousands of gold off of people buying my blue gems that i put up on the AH. I never buy epic gems, i buy them with honor. Buy uncuts and spam trade looking for a JC to cut it.
