If you can't go over 26000/36000 hated with Gadgetzan you're probably already neutral with Ratchet or Booty Bay. This quest: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=9268 will raise your reputation with Gadgetzan at 500rep/turn in until neutral.

Get gnomish engineering
Go to http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=11811 next to him there is a table, a book is on the table
''Talk'' to the book, it will ask you if you wish to change specialization
...and that should be it.

Hello, it's quite easy to get the rep back. U just need alot of time.
As some mentioned above, u should indeed have thought this through first, but oh well. nothing to do about it now is it ^^.

I don't understand why you have problems with that rep, i'm raising my steamwheedel cartel reputations back to neutral again (after bloodsail admiral) and i'm having no problems at all. Maybe you're bugged, if you're sure you're doing it right try to open an ingame ticket.

Killing pirates/running Dire Maul will be quite long, good luck.

While working on the Insane the Membrane achievement I found myself needing to gain back the rep, so farming the pirates for rep, those outside ratchet were a better option for me or those in the cove at tanaris.
Dire maul is slower than that for me, but then again if you have the materials to hand in for lots of suits and being an engineer you can skip the boss and just blow the first door open, so potentially much faster.

as rogue, ratchet wins. farmed till they give no more rep, gone to tanaris and then back again. it's faster to farm there even with half the rep gains.
