    Ret Paladin DPS question (RNG)?

Hey guys I've been noticing that my dps has been slacking lately (9k range) and i've noticed my judgement crit % during saurfang and festergut for the past 2 weeks had been outstandingly low (48% crit). Considering I have 48% crit raid buffed, +18% from Fanaticism, +3% because of Judgement Debuff, theoretically My judgements should be critting 67% of the time.

This is a big deal because a 15k judgement compared to a 6k judgement is a difference of ~1100 dps.

Because of this retarded RNG, im planning on grabbing http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49895 this will be a 5% crit upgrade, boosting my judgements crit cahnce to 72%

I figure this is why Ret paladins itemize for some agility leather gear, due to the reliance on judgement crits to push ahead on dps charts. I'm currently using http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50788 which are terrible I know, so it's a huge upgrade.

On a side-note, I've been told that http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50355 is only better than http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42987 if you have http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50351

    Is this true?

Here is my armory, let me know what you think of my gear itemization and let me know if my crit needs to be higher or something of the sort.

    Thanks

All melee attacks have a -4% crit chance on boss mobs, btw: So your theoretical Judgement crit chance is only 65%.

Exactly, I see Ret paladins having a 74% judgement crit chance. I guess im just confused on how much Agi gear I should itemize for, without losing too much AP from Strength pieces.

Tbh, before re-gearing for something that expensive, ask yourself what you would loose in consistancy by gemming for a bit more crit.

How long as this been going on? Are you missing some buffs, such as DKs forgetting to keep HoW up or no Leader of the Pack buff?

I want to stay around 5350-5500 AP unbuffed, but be around 42-45% crit unbuffed. We have SoE totem down all the time, And MM hunters for +10% Ap, and WF totem and Fury warrior for +5% crit

I think you're overestimating things a bit. In a 5 minute fight, you'll get in about 35 judgments assuming an 8.5 second effective CD given GCD overlaps, latency, etc.

48% crit means about 17 crits over that 5 minute fight. 65% crit means about 22. Five additional judgment crits, taking the figures from the OP, means an additional 62.5k damage (including RV). Over a five minute fight (300 seconds), that amounts to 208 DPS. Certainly not trivial, but definitely not the 1.1k cited in the OP.

Certain agi items might (for now) be an upgrade over what you have. Consult Rawr and spreadsheets. Don't go for them just because they'll boost your crit rating, however.

Let's all ride the Gish gallop.

You can consider in no certain order that the following pieces of Agi based gear are almost but not always better.

Rings, Neck, Cloak sometimes Boots, Belt and Bracers as well. so that really just about sums up most offset pieces and this is pretty much where we are.

No need to question the crit discrepancy. Given the relatively small number of judgments, even on a longish fight, seeing 48% instead of 65% is just barely more than a standard deviation off target. This will happen. Given enough parses of enough ret paladins who expect a 65% crit rate, you'll get a bell curve peaking at 65%. Some will be way over, some way under. RNG is RNG.

If fights were much longer, say, infinitely long, you'd always see 65% if you expected 65%. This is just not the case in real gameplay.

Let's all ride the Gish gallop.
