I have no words.... Well, Germany will probably follow and after that, who knows where it'll lead.

And Christ said to his disciples, "I shall grant you eternal Salvation!"

I have to agree with the guy that left a comment on that site.
Let's ban the news, it's always filled with violence and horror. And I never quite got the storyline of it anyway.
If that trend ever reaches Sweden, you'll be damn sure I'll bloody sit in my room shooting the heads off of imaginary soldier/aliens/civilians. And hell will I not grow up to be a massmurderer anyway. It's how the mind of a healthy person works, realize that...
If I was a Blizz server technician, I'd hijack a server and use it to download porn 24/7. Guess why the instance servers always are full B]
All they have done is created more pirates and a larger market for smugglers/bootleggers.
I'm actually scared :S if this happens in Sweden.. dunno what will happen. I'm going to pray everyday from now

Stupid laws like this gives political parties like Piraten partei Schweiz alot of popularity with youth.
To be honest I don't expect this to last if the government expects to stay in power.
When Sweden introduced new laws allowing the Government to go into people's email and the like it became quite unpopular.
Pirate Parties are springing up everywhere in Europe.

That's a bit much. I have to agree with Daginni though... things have gotten to the point where they may be a bit too violent. But things should be banned on an individual basis, rather than an outright ban on violence. As Panoramixe pointed out, the news is plenty violent, though usually gruesome things are left out. A great example of media violence far surpassing video games: showing Nodar Kumaritashvili's death (the Georgian luger) on the news over and over again for the entire day. That's about as gruesome as it gets, I have to say.
On the other hand, you can do some pretty disgusting things in games nowadays...
But the bottom line is... that's what the ESRB ratings are for. If you're an adult, you should have the choice on which video game, movie, book, etc. that you play, watch, or read. Trying to censor this stuff is futile, because realistically the internet is RIGHT THERE, and there are far worse things than God of War III.
I do agree to a point that some games are graphic to the point of just being that way for shock value. It was ok with Mortal Kombat and even GTA cause it still looks unreal.. but with Graphics today it's up to developers to draw a line on realism.
That being said.. that's a bummer. I agree that bans should be issued on an individual level but I suppose that's the way some governments work.. The US seems to struggle over free healthcare which for most countries is a no brainer.. some countries ban games.. some allow some crazy stuff.. it's an odd world.
Incredibly off-topic question here, Elementium but are American and have you see Michael Moore's Sicko movie?Originally Posted by Elementium

Basically in Cuba you can buy medicine for 3 pesos( 3cents) and that same medicine will be $125 in America.

I try and avoid politics all together but it's getting pretty extreme at the moment.. Republicans are extreme to the max and Democrats are about as productive as a rock, and really I know the US does a lot of sick stuff. If there was a perfect country out there I'd look towards moving there :P
I hope you realise that Sweden isnt going to do this anytime soon. I can understand Germany, as I have understood the situation there all blood are colored green in CS and such. We have no restrictions to our games in Sweden, a fundamental difference.Originally Posted by BananaInsane
Until they ban the internet they didn't truly ban anything.
The thing is, they've been trying that in Germany. Well, not completely banning, but censoring. While they planned on only censoring sites containing child pornography, if they had pushed that through that would probably have been just the beginning.Originally Posted by Carousel

I think Elementium put it perfectly. Sometimes I just want to slap the Democrates in the faces while screaming: grow some fucking balls!. As for the Republicans.... weeeell.
Also: Please get rid of Fox News and Glenn Beck.

I think when the day comes where they try to ban all violent games then I'll be worried about what's happening in the US Of course the way America works is.. if it makes money it stays.. unless it's something absolutely terrible and against Christianity (Sorry about the religious jab but we are that kind of country).
What ever happened to the PEGI rating? Do they not feel that this is sufficient? If they want to reduce kids exposure to violance, then put some bill on parents that let their 7 year old play GTA4. I don't believe in such a system, but it is a compromise none the less, that wouldn't take freedom away from adults who want to play a game.
I'm sure if someone ever tried that in america, we'd go batshit insane and start sating our withdraws on real people
Not gonna happen? Suuuuurreee

Swizerland turns into China ? :
is the election period over there soon or what ?
i agree that some games/movies are bit too violent and graphic but first off all every adult person should have the right to play/watch what he wants, one and his responsibility to not get the games to the kids and the responsibility of the shops not to sell a game thats rated 18+ to a 12year old, two crazy kids go on killing spree and oh the play games !!, yet zilions of adults kill while drunk and alcohol is still legal everywhere ...
well i guess kids cant vote and the adults that play games arent many, but baning alcohol would cause a civil war i guess
you can't avoid politics, EVER! polotics govourn everything you do buy and say these days.
i am curious are they banning violent movies as well, as the movies are definately more graphically violent than most games these days.
as for banning violent video games, i would see this as a pointless move unless they are banning violence as a whole. if they banned violent music vids, books, movies, games, adverts and everything else. what would you do?
also even games like little big planet have violence in them, even sonic is violent charging into bad guys to kill them.
if you took away my violent games i wouldn't be able to pretend that the guy i'm beheading on GoW was that guy who pissed me off earlier that day. instead i would have to vent my frustrations physically on the guys face and maybe end up in jail. violent games are my frustration vent games, so in this case where would you like me to vent this frustration, i could turn to drugs or public violence or turn into to one of those chav faced hoody wearers who collect asbo's and act out the stuff of my imagination on real people, would you want that?
it won't last long, we had this rubbish a few years agi when a few games got banned and then released again when everyone kicked up a stink.
as for the political side of things, this probably wasn't researched properly or done buy some 3rd party company who only asked the traumatised gamers for their opinions, or worse still they asked a bunch a falling apart WWII vets what they thought of games and they all they have seen of the culture is what has been on the news.
name me one serious gamer who spends more time being violent in public than at home on their console. in my opinion video games take violence off the streets into a controlled environment with rules and safety guidlines.
their was another post months ago about blood in games and how it can be more entertaining with it turned off, like CoD MW2 has a money splat instead of a blood splat.
if you read alot of game articles and such you would know about the recent study that showed most new FPS games and the like actually help you become smarter, its not just run in and try and kill stuff any more, it's more like stop, think about the next area and then sneak your way in and destroy them all.
just hold out voice your opinion as much as possible and if all else fails march upon the capitol and demand your freedom of human rights, it's your choice to play these games not some decrepid old fart in a piss stinking chair in some ruined old building spouting about something they have no clue about
