    Leveling Blacksmith

About how much does it cost from 1-450? Since I'm capped in mining, and planning on 450 JC + 450 BS, about how much of that cost could I drop in mining the materials before I buy the other materials?

It'll probably cost more than JC, especially if you follow through with either armorsmithing or weaponsmithing. Sorry I don't have an exact cost for you, I leveled it up mostly through BC and vanilla and I think it took longer than it will now, it's a nice profession though.

You may find that instead of "power-levelling" Blacksmithing (henceforth referred to as BS) the best way (and the most fun way) would be to gather the materials you need then drop mining. It is expensive but more so if you have to buy the ore too, the majority of servers I have seen sell Thorium for around 50g a stack, then you have the eternals, primals, etc.

If anything, just look at the AH and gather all the ores that are extortionate on there and buy the rest of the cheap ones. Oh! Since you are a Death Knight (from your previous posts) get Sulfuras :P.

It was cheap for me, as I leveled it up at the same time as mining, as our AH never has most of the mats on anyway, but when it does, it was like 100g for a stack of mithril, so to level by buying would be very expensive.
For a normal server it should be like 3k gold..

:x My bad, heh, total brain fart about the Death Knight forum
I'm in there so much, I didn't really take it into consideration.

I'll definitely be looking into mining the materials beforehand to level up so I can drop a large gold charge back into my pocket.
    Thanks for any/all the info

I would expect to pay no less than 5K if you plan to power level it. I leveled minging and BS together as I was leveling my toon and I still found myself buying a lot of mats.

If you are already maxxed mining, I would definatley spend a few WoW playing sessions just farming like a madman. The good part about that method is that a lot of the lower level / Old World Ores are worth a pretty penny, and you can sell your excess - OR - in your case if you are also planning on leveling JC you could use the "excess" or just farm for both professions at the same time.

    Best of Luck.

Click those links and scroll down a bit and it'll give you an estimate on how much materials you will need. I'm not sure of you're already 450 JC or not so I threw that one up too. Do NOT buy them all at once because I can almost guarentee you will be left with a lot left over. It's hard to say how much it'll cost because it all varies server to server.

Expect to pay, worst case senario, 4k gold to power level BS. Although, you have the mining to farm it so it would be a waste to buy everything. Vanilla ore is going to be the most expensive like thorium, mithril, etc. and I would highly recommend farming. There usually isn't much competition over that stuff, you might have to fight over a node with a lowbie lvling his skill but that's about it. Once you hit TBC you got epic flyer and Fel Iron is easy as hell to farm. Adamantite might take a little longer. WotLK ore is easy to farm but also usually pretty cheap (besides titanium) so that's your call.

If your server is as inflated as mine you'll thank yourself after farming everything. But if you have the money to throw out then spread the wealth to your wow community I guess. Just make sure you ain't buying ore from no Chinese farmer. hope this helped.

Since BS requires almost exclusively mats from mining it is basically free if you self farm. I think you need 80 rugged leather and 20 netherweave or something outisde of ore, stone, eternals. So less than 100G should be required.

I did this a couple weeks ago (did not do either specialty and only up to 440). Farmed everything, maybe came out with around 600 - 800 gold. I was surprised at how much junk I manged to sell - all my green iron leggings sold, all my fel iron plate stuff, most of my cobalt DPS gear, all my rods, all my saronite DPS blues and some of the greens, and a handful of other stuff. Weapons don't sell worth crap, but at least they have some vendor/disenchant value. Stay away from chest/shoulder armor (heirloom gear) - substitute boot/belt even if it costs you few more ore, and you can move a suprising amount of it thru the AH.
