    Stupid, stupid voidwalker

So, I started lvling a lock, just for fun. And so far it HAS been fun, except for one tiny problem, which occurs on maybe as much as half my pulls: I send in the voidwalker, he runs toward the target... and keeps on running, taking the target with him. They both end up out of range, I call him back, he runs back towards me, goes PAST me and keeps running, this time in the other direction, often into a pack of mobs and then we both die horribly.

Long story short, my voidwalker is borderline retarded. Is this a common problem? If so, are there any tricks to avoiding it? Do the good people of blizz know about it, and have issued the old "we are aware of the situation and are working on a fix" malarky?

I have noticed it a few times but it doesn't seem that common, at least not for me anyway. Also you could try telling him to stay once he has pulled what you wanted him to.

My pets have run in random directions while on passive and stay. They aggro things, the run into groups of alliance players, they do many stupid things that gets them, and me killed. Im amazed I have not seen many others dealing with this issue.
"Care about 'er? I love her! I'd kill everyone in the world and myself if she wanted it!"

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

I have this problem from time to time. In my experience, it seems less likely to happen if you are standing completely still when you send your vw in. Another thing to try is to start attacking after the vw is close enough to aggro the target, but before he's in melee range, sometimes that helps. I assume Blizz knows about this, but I'm not positive about that; I've never reported it myself.

Edit: I'm fairly sure that the reason this happens is because pets are coded to always try to get behind their target, which, obviously, doesn't work when they're tanking.

yea the voidwalker has some issues it seems, mine seems to enjoy kiting into other mobs and agro'ing lots and when he isn't trying to get my killed he likes obstructing my view of everything

It's not just the voidwalker, alot of the lock pets do it, I've seen hunter pets do it as well. Like someone said its them trying to get behind and since the mob is focusing on your pet it can't.

Send voidwalker in.. aggro mob, click passive, then defensive. Sorted.

Yeah, I've noticed it on my hunter a few times as well but pretty rarely, it's practically all the time with the voidwalker.

Anyways, thanks for your responses! I've submitted a ticket explaining the problem and that it seems to be fairly common, let's see if they at least know about it

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

set ur pet on Defensive hardly any problems also pull with curse of agony then ur VW will pick it up itself =)

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

i agree voidballs are brainless ;D

But use your imp tbh, if ye got a few herilooms, mobs will never reach you, so no point in an outdated tank pet

    just my coin

edit : and get a good wand, outdps your nukes at low lvl

This is the reason it happens,as far as I know.Pet tries to go behind the target ,target hits the pet so faces it again, pet tries to go behind the target again and so on.
You can try what has already been suggested like pull and put to passive for a bit or pull and let Void aggro it after that.

This is simply the stuipid pet AI

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/class-warlock/(guide)-warlock-leveling/

you'll love your warlock and he won't have to tank for you.

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

happens on hunter pets also . solution is simple

    ctrl+2 then ctrl+1
    or
    use this macro

    /petfollow
    /petattack

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

it's not the pet's fault... well, not entirely.

have you ever seen a "real" tank (i mean another player) trying to pull mobs in a certain direction, for example to a way, that no mob is behind him?
somewhere in time, shortly after WotLk launch, they changed how mobs move and arrange themselves when in hitbox-contact. not only for mobs, but also for pets.
and now you're sending in your npc to tank another npc, both trying to pin each other in place but acting like a crackhead.
the most useless invention in history? A Graveyard wall!
no one on the inside is able to walk out and
no one on the outside wants to get in willingly

    Re: Stupid, stupid voidwalker

all wrong, it's latency causing the problem. The pet runs towards the target the mob aggro's on the pet and runs towards the pet. The mob passes by the pet and runs back to the pet again passing it and your pet then runs towards the mob, passing it again. They keep trying to follow eachother which causes a chain reaction and they both end up trying to follow eachother into whatever is in their way.

Hmm, nice try, but i never have more than 30-40ms, and seen it happen alot, sure its the pet code as some suggested
