Disc Priest = spirit, or haste crafted gear?

So, my priest is level 64 now, levelling up pretty quickly. Hopefully will be getting her to raiding fairly soon, and thought I'd get a head-start on gear and get some stuff crafted.

basically, as disc, should I go for spirit, or haste to start with? I know end-game, spirit is not as good as haste (though getting changed in 4.0 i believe), but to start with...do I need the regen from spirit?

I'd say go with the haste on those 2 pieces and pick up the regen(preferably MP5 or Int) from other pieces. Getting the healer trinket from Normal ToC5 should be one of the first things you should get.

4.0 is a while off yet.

Disc gets no specific benefit from spirit, only the palty amount of regen. And, one thing that Disc does not need is regen, especially on spirit. If you feel you are low on mana, gem for more int, or int/sp gems. Disc gets plenty of regen/mana reducing abilities from talents, but it gets no extra throughput, save the shields from Divine Aegis.

As a general rule (ish) stack intellect until you have roughly 30k fully raid buffed mana. Then go spellpower. 4.0 is a long while off yet, and haste will still be good. The exact value of spirit for disc is yet to be seen.

If you ever feel the need to gem for spirit on a Disc priest, go reroll now. Holy and Shadow, ok, they both recieve benefits, can be worth it for blue sockets. But Disc? Nah...

yeah figured, just wanted to check before i blew a wad of cash on them. so...at low levels of gear, just gem for intellect too? or should I start with int/spell power?

First off Abb, think more about early heroics than raiding. Tinker will need some regen, so picking regen pieces will be better than haste pieces.

As for gemming, start out with Sp/Int in red, Int in yellow and Int/MP5 in blue(if the bonus is worth it), with your meta as IED. But as you gain better gear, start going towards more SP gemming.

if you will be pretty much just healing main tanks, dump the haste and go SP/spirit.

if you find you end up with a lot of raid healing then yeah, haste. otherwise...nope.

You actually want Crit/Haste for healing tanks when raiding, and get the regen from a lot of Int. Raid healing, for the most part, is correct. The only time when you'd favor regen over throughput in raid healing would be in a fight in which the only thing you do is toss out PW:S.

I don't know about Disc leveling since I leveled shadow, but back when Rapture gave mana back based on the amount healed/amount absorbed, Disc leveling was OP. It literally had no down time.

doesnt really have down time now either i'm usually dpssing in between heals

i figure i'll just gem for intellect while levelling, as it's cheaper than gemming SP anyway :P

There's no real need to gem much while levelling, green gems will do. Its more than a lot of people will do.
But yea, gem intellect. Downtime is your main problem with levelling an alt, Intellect is your best regen stat.

And yes, even if we was talking about heroics only, never get the spirit gear. As I say, disc gets no specific benefit from spirit.
Will full raid buffs, per item point, intellect is over 50% more effective for regen then spirit (and 20% more effective than MP5 stat itself, as 1 point of MP5 is worth 2 itemisation points). I forget where I read those stats, might have been EJ or somewhere.

Like I said, if you are feeling low on mana, gem int. When your mana is ok, gem spellpower, with crit/haste (personal preference for an alt really) in yellow sockets if it is worth it.
If you still feel the need to gem intellect, go with the IED and use either 1 Nightmare Tear or a sp/spirit gem to get the blue socket bonus. (The IED works on a proc to Restore Mana. 600 mana, 15 sec ICD, 5% proc chance)
Once you are past that stage, I find it useful to use the Ember Skyflare Diamond as your meta, as it has all the exact benefits that disc wants, and no need for any blue gems.

I just geared my priest w/ heroics n crafteds. I got the Bejeweled Wizard's Bracers and Merlin's Robe cheap enough getting the mats myself n i love them. mp5 is kinda subpar for regen for disc imo. Being a tailor helped w the cloth. i always hear stack intellect, and that's what ive done except for sp gems when itll get a decent socket bonus n for meta. thats been working perfectly for me.

well cloth is gona be mega cheap in a few days with 3.3.3 removing the cooldown the expensive part is the orbs, but I already have 3, so not that much more to get.

to START with id get the haste 264 pants , and craft the boots which are spirit / crit.

cant go wrong with making gear better than anything else you can pickup.



if your talking about just getting some tailor Ilevel 200 stuff to start out with then get the haste pieces until you have roughly 600 haste then stack spirit for regen and xtra spell power.

Those values are only correct for the first half. As Disc, your goal for end game raiding should be getting as many Int/Crit/Haste pieces as possible. Add to the fact that MP5 >>> Spi in regen, so we end up with:

SP > Haste > Crit > MP5 >>> Spi
