New deathknight tank

hey guys, i just started tanking with my death knight i do fine in heroics and got all the tank badge gear, could you guys give me some pointers on my gear and spec, Last night i went into ToC 10 and couldnt really tank well at all took way too much dam
Could you guys please tell me what spec to go im thinking either frost or unholy and give me pointers on my Gems

First of all, you should get rid of that Arp trinket your PvP legs and also you should upgrade your neck becuase you don't really need Block and replace your Block cape, and for gods sake, get some tanking bracers!

I would also change spec

And get your weapon enchanted with a rune!

Otherwise you are good to go

Unholy is a bad tanking spec. I'd go with blood. Also, check out http://elitistjerks.com/ for their death knight tanking threads, they explain a ton about what makes a death knight tank good and bad

To start Blood is better in my opinion, and I also find it a lot more fun. I guess it comes down to personal preferences, but as far as I know they're pretty much equal.

With how dps people play these days frost is superior in 5man content. Single target threat and mitigation almost don't matter. AoE snap aggro wins. Death's source in dungeons in chaos. Chaos comes from the people you play with.

Get your average item level to at least 232 with a tank item in every armor slot.
Get yourself defcapped without gemming for it. Gem for stamina instead.
Replace that ugly meta gem.

Enchant. Your. Gear.

Get all tanking gear. You have alot of dps gear on.
Your Defense is too low to tank ToC 10 man. Should hit 540.

Get your trade skills up. It's worth the effort to lvl up..

The best strat I think would be...

Drop enchanting, it's too low too ever care about. Pick up...
Mining for +50 stam. Great for tanks, and would only require time and you can make money will doing it
Jewelcrafting. Really good to lvl with Mining. +51 stam gems would be great.

If you mainly do heroics... I would go Frost, and learn to love Howling Blast. Unholy isn't the best tanking spec. Once you start doing raids more, when geared that is. You might want to try Blood.

Like almost any other tank, Stamina and stamina along with some more stamina, atleast for starters. Then once you start getting into raids if you do, Expertise might be of interest.

I had the same problem as you with ToC10. It's a tough dungeon but I think that with better gems and enchants you should be fine.

Generally you want to gem Stam all around if possible. The exception being when you start to get very high up and going for ICC10 in which case you might need to gem Hit Rating (this is my struggle right now) for the Saurfang fight.

For enchants, check out my profile to see the ones you should probably use. The exception being Gloves in which I went +20 hit and you should do an armor kit:

You can see that the Leg, Shoulder, and Helm enchants will make a huge difference.

Not to mention I did a gdkp and brought my dk for first couple bosses , ty for 264 tanking helm from a blue :P 2 days as 80 with minimal time on him.

Just wow. Don't even know where to start.

For one, can't believe you wasted frost badges on the sigil. I hope you're still in the window to return that.

For two, your gemming is atrocious. Stamina, stamina, and more stamina. Defense rating and block value meta? /facepalm.

For three, your gearing is terrible. You have DPS gear on. It's not that hard to pick up real tank gear anymore.

For four, you're gemming poorly for defense and using defense/block rating gear, and you're NOT using the SSG rune?

I'm just gonna walk away.
