How to Opt-In for the Cataclysm Beta!

After seeing a thread or two pop up, some uninformed people here and there and a few PMs, I've created this small guide (with pictures!) to opting in for the Cataclysm Beta as it's something that we're expecting to show up not soo far away.

1. Go to http://www.battle.net and log in using your Battle.Net account name, password and (if you have one) authenticator.

2. Click on your World of Warcraft game and choose 'Manage Game' on the menu popping up. Once you get on to your World of Warcraft managment site, click the 'Beta Profile Settings' link on the right. Image if needed.

3. If you have not opted in for any betas before, you will be asked to create a beta profile with your system settings (if this is not the case, skip to part 5). This is so that you will not be given a beta key if you don't have a computer capable of running it. It is also so that Blizzard can test Cataclysm on as many different setups as possible. Download the beta opt-in application for your operative system.

4. Open the zip file in which the download came in and run the application. It's a fairly simple process: simply accept the terms of agreement. After that, just click send. Do note that you'll have to download this application yourself - you can't borrow it from a friend. The reason is that when you download the application, it's directly connected to your Battle.Net account. Once done, you will get a message informing you that the information was sent.

5. Refresh your beta profile settings page. You will see your system information. All three game types will be checked to start with, just remove any that you aren't interested in.

6. Click 'Update Preferences'. And there, you're now opted in to join in the Cataclysm beta.

Some additional info on the Cataclysm beta:

An activated World of Warcraft account is not required. However, at least one Blizzard game must exist on your Battle.Net account.

Accounts with previous bans in-game or on the official forums can still be granted access to the beta.

I've made battle.net accounts, everyday for an hour in the last month, i noticed how awesome it was to be in the WOTLK beta from live streams etc, so i wanna be in one.

Having 20 battle.net accounts will not increase your chances to get in the beta, you have 1 chance per wow account to get in the beta, and only fully active, with wotlk, accounts will be selected (also your account need to be "clean", aka never got any trouble)

So I've heard that blizzard chooses people who have high end computers so that they run the games smoothly and that any bug is on their part, not ours.

Now, I can run WoW on full graphics 60 fps, SCII (Through crack) on full graphics, yet not a single peep for a beta has come my way, any reasons? Do they fill up fast, or am I just unlucky. I've also heard people getting two beta keys for games, which seems kind of unfair.

Any help with clearing up my problems would be appreciated, hope I don't need a high RNG level IRl

Y'know, I should probably add that to the guide somewhere. I wouldn't want anyone with 793 Battle.Net accounts coming around my house because they didn't get into the beta. Thanks for mentioning it.

Nah i have 2 accounts, One fully active since 05' and one active from 07', but is now dead because i don't use it.

You need an active game key in order to update your beta settings (and no you cannot use cloned keys, that will immediately suspend your account and disqualify that account from getting into ANY beta).
That means one account ~ 10$ give or take what product you used as the game key.

Creating new accounts from now to increase your chance to get into the beta is useless and a waste of money, they'll only select accounts that have been active for x time (maybe half of a year, dont really know).

Maybe a plugin that you are using with Firefox is causing this, also be sure that you are using the last version of firefox.

Yeah, I should probably fix that. Because this is in no way a deliberate scheme set in motion to increase my own chances at a beta key. Nope. Not at all.
