Guess the new priest spells and changes

The type of information you can expect from these posts are a list of the new spells from 80-85, the new passive mastery bonuses for all talent trees, a brief outline of some of the talent changes we're currently planning, and in some cases new low level spells for select classes.

These changes will by no means be comprehensive, and are subject to change between now and the launch of the expansion. It's also important to understand that some classes are currently further along in the development process than others, and as a result the amount of information will vary from class to class. Please do not let this frustrate you should your class be amongst those which are on the "lighter" side of things, as all classes will receive the same level of design attention before the expansion is released. Additionally we'll be providing more information for all classes, especially as we move into the beta phase.

Below is the schedule for each class:

    • Shaman - April 7
    • Priest - April 7
    • Warlock - April 7

    • Warrior - April 8
    • Death Knight - April 8
    • Rogue - April 8

    • Hunter - April 9
    • Druid - April 9
    • Mage - April 9

    • Paladin - April 16*

These posts are being coordinated internationally so they'll be posted at different times throughout the day and night on the given dates to give players around the world the ability to see posts made at a convenient time. This thread will be updated with links directly to each class preview as they're posted.

*The paladin is still deep in development. Instead of giving a preview that would be potentially less comprehensive than the other classes we made the decision to post it when it's ready, in order to properly honor the paladin class and those that play them. The wait isn't too long however as we're expecting to be able to post it on April 16.
So, what do you think the changes will be? Let's see if anyone of us hit it and guess right

Re: New Priest spells and changes

I'm kinda bummed about the changes to the dispel mechanics. We don't gain anything and all the other classes (except paladins) gain something.

I'm sure they'll have dumped a ton of development time on making our spells better as well, which although it isn't neccesarily a bad thing, it's not so exciting that we won't get lots of cool new stuff.

Ghostcrawler's (?) blue post from the other day saying 'yeah all druids spam rejuv/wg, palas spam holy light and priests spam COH ON COOLDOWN, THIS IS MADNESS'
Which just seemed silly since, well, it's hard to spam something when it has a cooldown. And besides, CoH doesn't neccesarily get used on cooldown; PoM is the one that gets pushed on cooldown no matter what.

That said, if I'm right about them mainly focusing on changing our existing spells (and that nuke for shadow blahblahblah) I hope they find a solution better than just giving CoH a cooldown. Make it have a mana cost that stacks like Arcane Blast, so if we REALLY needed to use it twice we'd have to really pay dearly for it. Other than that Gheal/Lightwell need attention
I still like the idea I had for lightwell:

    Actually, here's my predictions:
+ All heals cost much more mana
+ Int-based regen nerfed to hell
    + Meditation removed
+ New-Spirit-based regen giving high yields out of combat.
+ Arena always counts as in-combat.
+ Spirit Coefficient removed and buried, priest community dancing on its grave. No more silly levelups = weaker toon
+ A cheap spammable 2-second heal healing for low amounts: revamped Heal
+ A new Hymn. Something related to damage
+ More cooldowns added. Because cooldowns are just so fun.
+ Lightwell untouched, still branded as the best reason to go holy, four more years of "we want to change it"

I think they will change it. If they add some kind of aoe arbsorbs for Discipline Priests, they'll need something to make Holy better on aoe aswell (or else Discipline might be better). Adding another aoe healing spell would be kill, since we have quite a lot, and nobody doesn't really like Lightwell, so perfect moment to change to something more auto (but not OP).

Body and Soul beeing able to take as disc with a possible trade-off.
Shadowfiend channels mana to you and increases you shadowdmg (shadow talent) while active.
SW:P fixxed to properly refresh haste/crit like spellpower does atm.
SW:P now affected by haste effects.
MindFlay stacking debuff at each tick that works like an arcane blast effect for our new nuke.
New nuke:frost school snares the target (glyph that increases dmg but removes snare).Becomes powerfull after some debuffs (3-6at its max dmg).
VT coefficient tuned down a bit and possibly make DP or SW:P tick for more.
    Real dispell protection for VT.
    Somthing with lightwell (please!!).
Make disc heals benefit a little more from sp.
Improve a bit the mobility of disc priests in pvp.
Some thoughs and more chance of me getting some of them right.

I hope disc priests get power word: barrier.....

    I like!
I agree that even if it doesn't make much sense per se to get a frost nuke, they need something so lockouts aren't so bad. I think it would make more sense as a root instead of a snare though, we already have mind flay to snare (even if it's 'pointless' to snare something if you have to root yourself to do it).

Intellect is our new spellpower, so that makes no sense.
But I do reckon int will not be as good a stat as it is now. Today, int is OP in terms of manaregen, and that won't last. Since it also turns into our primary throughput stat, why stack anything else? Clearly this will not stand.

Re: Guess the new priest spells and changes

I like to see something like flay putting up a stacking debuff that makes your next mind blast be more effective. Say each flay tick increases its damage by 2% to a max of 10 stacks and 20% or so. Or say an effect like boomkins have going with eclipse, where in our case flay could build crit chance a bit for our next dot application or something. Just having spells that build off each other would be cool i think, rather than just a priority system.

I think i mentioned an idea for lightwell before as some sort of charged aoe heal. Priest could drop it on an area, it charges for 10 seconds or so and becomes 'ready'. Priest waits for appropriate aoe spike or whatever and hits lightwell again to activate the charged aoe heal at the target area. Would be a fairly interesting and semi unique way of healing, requiring encounter knowledge and raid co-ordination to a certain extent.

Shadow priest will get Mind Slap, the new nuke-spell that will replace all our other spells and will just be a shadow bolt with different graphics.

I'm not really sure how the nuke will play out, to be honest.

It has to beat MF, otherwise there is no point in casting the new nuke, ever.
It can't beat MF, otherwise MF is simply deprecated, replacing the iconic spriest spell with a bolt.

    ... I'm puzzled.

What could make sense is that the "new nuke" is some talent increasing MFdps on non-player mobs for the first 20 seconds.

This will be funny is the animation was a big shadowy hand slapping the target across the face. That would be funny to see a big hand slap the Lich King!!!

    Power Word: Faith
Power infuses the target, increasing their mastery by X for Y min.

Edit: the spell name is just a random shizzle, didn't have anything better :<

I too am having difficulty seeing how they would add a spammable nuke to shadowpriests. Spammable nukes + channeled spell = arcane mages. Their rotation is proc-based and makes missles worth casting but still relies on spamming nukes. However, we would also add DoTs into the rotation, making it incredibly cumbersome.

If they did add a spammable nuke to shadow, I think they would have to remove a DoT spell or maybe replace a DoT by adding an ignite mechanic to the nuke, but again, not very exciting cuz then we'd become fire mages.

Re: Guess the new priest spells and changes

They could combine the ideas of Lightwell and PW:Barrier into something like "Light barrier" which absorbs a set amount of damage to your party. Like a totem effect or Divine Sacrifice.

The more complicated the better!I mean it's so gr8 when you have to put a lot of effort (A LOT) and finally be able to be top dpser! and I anyway think that anyone that haven't learned how shadow works/spell rotations etc with the amount of information internet has and 85lvls to practise must be retarded.
