    New graphics card question

Hopefully I can include all the necessary information, I am pretty much an idiot when it comes to computer specs.

I currently am running Vista 32bit with an Intel Celeron D CPU 3.33Ghz with 430w power supply and a PCI slot; I have 2gb of ram. I have a Radeon X1550 series card atm and I am thinking about buying a new one to hopefully fix my low fps issues! My budget is around $100. I understand that I need a PCI card and it can't require more than 430w from my power supply so this is what I've come up with, are any of these good?

I just found these but I don't exactly know what I'm looking for so if anyone has a better suggestion I am more than happy to hear it. Also, if my computer would be better off to just scrap and build a new one I will consider that. Thank you!

This 5670 will run circles around all of the video cards you linked and it has far lower power consumption.

I would highly recommend just saving up your money and building a new rig.

You're not going to get much gaming done with a celeron and a PCI graphics card.

I checked that out and saw the following under specs:
System Requirements 400 Watt or greater power (500 Watt for ATI CrossFireX technology in dual mode)
What does that mean? I am fairly positive my power supply is only 430w.

Ok thanks for your suggestion, how much would one need to build a decent machine for gaming? I really only play WoW on pc, I have an xbox for everything else. I have a couple friends saying you can build a nice machine for as little as $500 now, is that true?

    Re: New graphics card question

I checked the 5670 out as well and it's not PCI... It's PCI-express and from what you said in your first post, your motherboard does not have a PCI-expres slot.

The 500W part means that if you want to run 2 of those cards in crossfire mode, you will need a 500W PSU. If you run only one card, like most people do, 400W should be sufficient.

As far as building a new system goes... It depends on how much you can re-use... If mobo/CPU/GPU/RAM/PSU is all you need then you could easily do it with 500 bucks. Otherwise I would say that $500 is not nearly enough for a build that will run WoW smoothly, at least not in raids.

Oops, I didn't see that it's an antique pci slot. The video card I linked won't even fit so ignore it.

You'd bet better off saving another hundred or two and gettng a better computer, $500 won't buy a lot.

    Re: New graphics card question

You should get a better rig overall. If you upgrade your VGA, the processor will still be a major bottleneck. This wiki link was made for Aussie gamers but it should work for just about everyone. Prices are in $AUD so you can just convert that price using this website to whatever your currency is.

If you are only playing WoW/don't mind everything set on low/med go with the $850 or $1000 rig. Hope that helps!
