Is Abyssal Rune really better for me?

My DPS has been a bit wonky since both 3.3 and gear upgrades have kicked in, for example, in affliction spec I did about 1k more dps than in destruction on a single target boss. That is most likely a result of my spec and gear at the time, but the fact is that now destro is higher by a slight bit.

In order to bring it back up I turned to the program Rawr, as suggested by some, and used it for my rogue (it had me regem out all of my armor pen gems for agillity and haste) and it wants me to gem my warlock for a lot of hit, I ignore that as in raids my hit is fine.

The odd part is the suggested trinket swap: Rawr wants me to swap out Purified Lunar Dust for Abyssal rune.
I know that sometimes a lower valued item is better (Rogue using needle encrusted scorpion for example) but in this case I just don't see the value of the rune.

Anyone else gotten this advice and gotten hard results from it?

My Warlock in case you need it.

    Rawr + Warlocks = buggy

    Actual math:

Purified Lunar Dust = 179 SP, mp5 is a minimal dps increase as you have to tap anyways for Glyph.
    Abyssal Rune = 84 Haste and ( 590 x 10 / 50) = 118 SP.
Assuming average scale factor of say... 2.0 for SP and 1.8 for Haste (yours may vary)

    PLD: 179 x 2.0 = 358 DPS
    AR: 84 * 1.8 + 118 * 2 = 387.2 DPS

Re: Is Abyssal Rune really better for me?

Given the gear you are wearing right now, SimCraft (much more accurate than Rawr atm for locks) suggests your Affliction scale factors are:

    Code:
Sta	Int	Spi	SP	Hit	Crit	Haste
    Scale Factors	0.0000	0.3459	1.0977	1.8619	1.7349	1.0599	1.9233
    Updated:
    PLD: 179 x 1.8619 = 333.28 DPS
    AR: 84 * 1.7349 + 118 * 1.8619 = 365.44 DPS

edit: and since im waiting for something to compile:
    http://www.wowhead.com/?items&filter...1.0599:1.9233;

    Ignore the trinkets section

that is a fantastic reply, and it backs up Rawrs rating.

thank you so much for doing the hard math, I may have to take it's advice on the brittle bracres.

Is there a way to get rawr to stop suggesting hit gems?

removing hit from the filter you provided changes things a lot as far as the brittle bracer, there is no need to buy them now.

    Thanks again.

Can you tell me if the results should be the same regardless of spec (destro or aff) ?

Results will vary spec to spec. For example, Haste is valued much lower in a destruction build.

    http://code.google.com/p/simulationcraft/

Download it, run simcqt.exe and navigate through the import mechanics and hit "Import" then "Simulate". The output is well formatted.
The only tricky thing is dual spec - on the main option page you can choose "Active" or "Inactive" spec.

if your looking for gearing tips...

    get 4pt10
Replace all your hit,sp/hit,sp/crit gems, you have 110 hit from gems. only use +23 sp, +12 sp/+10 haste, +12 sp/+10 sprit.
you wasted 50 frost on the worst 264 cloak, and 60 on the wrong belt, AKA IF YOUR UNDER HIT CAP GET HIT BELT.
there are alot of better weapon/oh the your staff, if your gonna use that staff go affliction. which gives you 1% more hit then your destro spec.
if you spending lots of gold on BoE's buy the bracers off LDW 25, and leggings of woven death. get t10 head/shoulders
also drop black magic enchant for pure sp.

I did this, it worked, but I don't see where it says what stat brings the biggest gains, SP, haste, ect.
I see an area near the top that looks like it, but has all 0s in it, for scale factors and normalized

Ok, I figured that part out, it was an option.
This is great, and your instructions made it easy. Simcraft was always scary so I never used it. Thank you very much.
