    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

tbh i played for months and months, got a lvl 31 cleric, 25 spirit master and 15 ranger

The game looked amazing in beta, i couldnt stop playing, i pre ordered the collectors edition, got to lvl 31 and it turned into a grindfest and i hated it, i loved low level but hated end game.

Though, as the guy said, it was released before real content was ready, 2.0 is going to be released soon (dunno when, but soon) it looks good, its basically an x-pac you dont have to pay for, so they will get some people back for that, because i know ill try it out, supposedly it will be more westernized, but id suggest wait a while and search around on some info on it.

to sum it up, it was dull, lackluster and gindfest korean game with no intention of pve watsover thats why all the 'wowfanboys' left and all the RPnerds stayed to talk to sexy Asmodian girls :P

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

I played it last autumn (October/November), had a cleric and got til level 30. Did some raids, PVP - not so much, since it's not really my thing. The game isn't bad, but at that point it did seems to lack in content and balance. I decided to wait a give it a second try some time later (say, this summer).
While I enjoyed my class in parties/raids, cleric as a solo grinder wasn't really all that good (well, okay, that's quite obvious) and, sadly, at that point I didn't have anyone to party with (both of my DPS friends were quite higher level than me).
Another thing that irritated me, was the inability to customize my UI as much as I wanted. As a healer, I want my raidframes to be clear and easy to read. Aion's frames lacked in info I needed, but had unnecesary info & clutter instead. I'd say even WOW default raid frames are better. And really, by now game makers should have realised what healers need... but nooo :|

Other than that, yeah, it's a pretty game.

So the question is: Is Aion worth playing?

Thank you in forehand for replying.
alright, well, lemme give you my experience, im 3 levels from hitting the cap, and my god, i no longer wanted to play this game, the grind is horrid, ive played FFXI, eve, wow since pre bc, and i would like to tell you, enjoy spending 3 days, 3 full days, for 1 level, unless you go chinese farmer and swing at the same group of mobs as a glad for 80 hrs
the AH is ruled by the chinese farmers, so be ready to see a horrid AH spikes on items, recently the GMS when liquid hot magma on their asses, but they grinded back to cap level in less then 3 weeks thanks to the starting areas being baron, or full of the opposite faction coming to lolgankrape everything in sight with their pulsing epeen of skill
if you go against a sorc, just /dance and get ready to die
lets see, anything else... oh right
every month, if you still have a subscription, you get exp boosts =D isnt that horrid? =] thats like FFXI saying "hey, thanks for continually paying for this dead game, here, enjoy endgame by smashing your head against the aoe ability"
or i guess to the wow community perspective, its like having full rested exp, all day, for 3-5 days straight

anything else.... ummm, well in a sence aion is alot like FFXI, tagging mobs, first claim first serve bosses (its open world bosses pretty much, its like king Behemoth all over again)
the flying is a bit clunky, i havent played aion in like 3 months, dont know if they have changed it since then, if your range, melee are your circle flying strafing biotches
oh, and in pvp, the winner is the one with the most hp/mp pots/flight pots/scrolls/(i forget the name of the special ability meter) jelly, and running scrolls, sooo, its pre bc feeling of buffings yourself, just spamming more health pots like a crack addiction

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

I played Aion for a couple of months from release day and while its fairly fun/pretty for a while it looses its glossy sheen really quick. For the record i had a 30 Templar, 25 Cleric, 22 SM and a 21 Chanter, so yeah i invested a fair bit of time.

For a start the game rewards luck, not effort. Trade skills (a part of the game i actually enjoyed) are frustratingly massive time and money skinks. Spend 5-10 hours gathering all the mats for your new armor set at your level? Watch as only 1/5 bits actually craft into something worthwhile.

Leveling/questing. Can be fun, campaign quests are usually great, normal quests not so much. Weird and varied rewards for effort factors, sometimes you'll get less than a 10th of the exp your acquired getting to the area where the quest is as a reward for completing it.

Like to PvP? forget it. Unless you are within 2 or 3 levels of someone of the opposing faction they will dominate you, no questions. Skill is not a factor, constant resist resist resist, miss miss miss. Rifting was a cool concept, except the portals are so poorly placed they drop you into sections of the zone 10 levels above where your portal come from. Hey im level 30 and suddenly im supposed to wade out of a massive npc camp of 40+?

Abbys. Fantastic for the first few levels, great zone but is totally shit on by how its not segregated at all. People 10+ levels above you will camp your starter zones. The Castle siege is total crap, not even worth participating in for some classes, rewards based on damage done. Tank or healer? gl with that.

Dungeons. Fun the first couple of times but get frustrating really quickly. Probably because most players were still very bad and had no idea what to do with their classes. Forget loot too, its a myth from most bosses.

Flight. Your an angelic human with wings, should be able to fly anywhere right? Wrong. Have fun flying mostly around town area's and the abbys.

Gliding. Something they actually got right, this was one of the only purely fun features of the game.

This is all coming from someone who has played MMO's for about 10 years now. Hell i played Ragnarok Online (iRO legit, not a private server) for 5 years and that's a MASSIVE grinder, but at least that had rewarding PvP and a meta game to keep people reeled in. Aion doesn't provide in that regard.

or better yet when the rifts drop you in a location surrounded by Elite-level enemies, which sucked if you were playing asmodian as I did during my time with the game...

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

Not like my vote is anything. I barely played Aion for 3hours. As the evil side, a rogue or so. I really can't remember.
I really adored the Graphics, it was beautiful indeed. As one already said ''Eye candy'', yes it was.

But, THEN I started to feel the road to find places just became very long. Compared to warcraft.
I would say if you like Farming, grinding, as people have mentioned here many times, sure go for it. But for endgame content, I don't think you'll be satisfied tbh afaik

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

An honest opinion from a STILL subscribed Aion player.

1st id like to say this game is not for the WoW lovers. This game actually makes you work and earn the stuff you get. You will not get max level / gear with very minimal efforts. You get what you work for. I enjoy that. I enjoy knowing that when i get something i truely earned it, worked for it. Its challenging yes, but worth it.

2nd is leveling. Anyone who says they had to "grind" before they reached 35 is just stupid. 1-10 can be done in 1hr. At lvl 10 you go to the new towns and pick up tons of quests which are not single step quests. Most quests in the game have multiple steps. Again, if you ran out of quests, or campaigns before level 35 and started to "grind" you just dont know how to play the game. There is grinding in the game at certain points in the level ranges. There are almost always quests available at ANY level range to do if you do not want to grind. The grinding is the best / fastest way to level up. Its also the best way to get some of the random drops for patterns and gear.

3rd. PVP. People need to seriously wake up and read the game. It is PVP 1st and foremost. The game is built on PVP. If you do not like or want PVP than simply put do not try Aion. I will admit there are times the PVP makes you want to break stuff when you are killed often by some overgeared people coming to your zone just raping you. However, there are NON-PVP zones with quests and such for your level regardless of what level you are as an alternative to the PVP Zones. In the end though, the game is all about PVP.

4th is AP (abyss points / honor). No it does not take tons of time (1/2 year as someone stated). You earn AP for a wide variety of tasks. There are repeatable quests that are easy to do and rewards are good. You can go to Fotress Raids / Defenses and walk away with 10,000 AP easily with about 30-45 minutes time invested. PVP Gear is what makes the game. Level is somewhat involved but its mostly Gear over Level. I see lvl 35's who work their behinds off for pvp gear who can rape level 50's, so its not just a level thing.

5th Crafting. Yes it does suck. However, most of the is doibg workorders provided by NPC's in the game. The ability to max level crafting can be very tedious and frustrating. However, if you level up your gathering (mining / herbing) as you level its much cheaper and easier/

In the end, its based on what you like. If your a a WoW addict, chances are you are set in the ways of easy come easy go. This game is NOT for people who wants the best stuff without working for it. The game does NOT cave for the casual players like WoW. This game will reward those who put in the time and effort. If you dont want to work hard for your gear, dont try laying as you will quit. The botting / rmt is pretty much resolved. They do massive bot bans as needed but i can say i seen 90% of the bots banned about 2-3 months ago. Just like WoW there is stilla bout 1 bot per day yoou will run across.

I will continue to play as 1.9 is due to release this month with increased Loot drop rates, higher exp gains from questing / grindings etc. 2.0 is due out later this year with TONS of new stuff. To be exact 2.0 patch notes is a 38 page boook if that tells you anything. They will be introducing an awesome pet system, new flying system and such. Just google Aion 2.0 patch notes.

This is coming from a WoW player of 4yrs. I quit upon Aions launch and have never looked back. I hated seeing everyone getting high end gear with very minimal effort. People who play like 5hrs a week decked out in equivalent gear as to the dedicated hardcore progression raiders is just silly.

I say if you do try it out, try to reach the 30's and make and overall judgement on your experience. Just keep an open mind and read up on the game before trying it out.

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

i had a lvl 50 (max) cleric, and two mid-level alts, gladiator and spiritmaster.
i also played for a month at max lvl.

i'll tell you what i think of this game.

    the good:
    amazing customization and graphics
amazing world, environment, mobs, items, spells etc... it felt like you were dreaming,
i could just log in and do nothing else but wonder around aimlessly, and i enjoyed it.
gear dyes and gear remodeling was awesome.
it had cinematics in quests lol xD
all servers are 50-50 faction ratio.
theres nice group-pvp if you are "rifting". altho most of the times, u either gank or get ganked. (clerics pwn <3)

    the bad:
leveling is extremelly slow and boring. but unlike the rumors there are enough quests so u wont grind.
its just that they all are "kill x" and are repeatable.
pvp/pve is a pot-fest. be ready to farm a lot.
gear is everything in pvp. and i mean everything. ebayers everywhere.
gear takes a looong time of grinding and farming to get. but when u get it, you're god.
everything is really expensive. i bot-ed every night and i was barely "ok" financially.
oh yes, theres bots everywhere =P
and theres a lot of "failure" involed, like when u try to enchant/create something... theres a big chance it will break
and bosses most times dont drop anything -_-

the first words that come to my mind when i think about Aion...
    beautiful
    farming
    item failure
    potions
    gearcraft
    second job

seriously, i will never understand you e-peeners.
people play games to have fun, not play gear tetris.
apparently fun (at least in pvp) is not easy to come unless you have competitive gear.
gear is the means to have fun. it should be aquired fast and by all, so the fun can begin.

    AION

Is this game any good? I looked it up and did research. I read that their is alot of grinding involved in leveling in it. And their is also a pretty cool feature: wings. This game seems pretty cool but i would like some feedback from players. Thanks

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

I leveled an Asmodian Cleric up to level 30.
It was painful, I had to spend alot of time grinding mobs due to lack of quests.
I also tried some PvP and it was just messy, not the 1v1.
About PvE it had alot of bugs like bosses that didn't drop anything and stuff like that.
    Last but not least, BOTs.
They were everywhere annd GMs didn't give a crap about them.

I quited after about 1 month in Novemeber so I don't know if it has changed till now.

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

I preordered the game since it looked really prosiming.

I leveled my Spiritmaster all the way to level 50.

The game looks really well designed in terms of gameplay and graphic engine and I really enjoyed that. But I found quest lines and leveling not as fun as WoW ( I have 6 level 80 characters in WoW ), despite this I continued to level because I wanted to see what the end game was like. I have to say that I didnt like at all, I am a player that enjoys PvE aspects of an MMO, and the PvE part of Aion still had a lot of PvP involved in it. So considering this fact I didnt renew my account and returned full time to my WoW alts.

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

I played it till around 26 but just couldn't stand the non stop fucking grind

its what everybody is telling: its a grindfest on a high level

Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

    Re: Is Aion worth playing?

To be honest i haven't played it my self. But what i heard and see the games seems really like a combination of wow , lineage 2. If you liked World of Warcraft but you tired of it and you need something new i don't recommend AION. Play War Hammer online or Lord of the rings online.
