Perhaps you could add a Hide/Spoiler thing which you have to click to all the thumbnails to show up?

I admit it would be a good idea to make the one news post a tiny bit smaller (like 1/10th -1/100th of its current size)
But I have a better solution you can do yourself. You can bookmark the forums instead of the frontpage to bypass the huge posts coming the next few days. All the news coming these days will be sorted and compiled shortly, so have patience and you won't have to deal with frontpages the size of the average book.
