    Question about wow datacenters

Does anyone know how the server locations listed at wowwiki were determined?

    http://www.wowwiki.com/US_Realm_List_By_Datacenter

and also is there a way that we can confirm Eldre'thalas US is in fact in Los Angeles and not at another Data Center? A guild member recently tried testing this with our realm and came to the conclusion that Eldre'thalas is more likely in Texas. Here is why:

    In E'T:

    tcp4 0 0 10.0.1.37.49160 12.129.206.130.bnetgam ESTABLISHED
    tcp4 0 0 10.0.1.37.49161 12.129.233.62.battlene ESTABLISHED

    ARIN registry for those:
    http://ws.arin.net/whois/?queryinput=!%20NET-12-129-206-0-1 (First IP)
    http://ws.arin.net/whois/?queryinput=!%20NET-12-129-232-0-1 (Second IP)

    In Doomhammer:

    tcp4 0 0 10.0.1.37.49210 206.17.111.189.battlen ESTABLISHED
    tcp4 0 0 10.0.1.37.49160 12.129.206.130.bnetgam ESTABLISHED

    ARIN registry for those:
First is the same as above.
    http://ws.arin.net/whois/?queryinput=!%20NET-206-17-110-0-1

One connection appears to be common, so that's probably not the actual game server (probably authentication)

    Re: Question about wow datacenters

Perform a traceroute to the server you're trying to locate and the 16th hop will return the location, Eldre'thalas returned 12.129.193.246, which is South of Los Angelas apparently.

Eldre'thalas' IP is 12.129.233.48, you can find this by using the netstat command after logging into the realm, in this case Eldre'thalas.

    Re: Question about wow datacenters

Yeah my guildie and I both are not getting the same IP as you. I am seeing 12.129.233.62.

Actually I take that back 12.129.233.62, is not unique to Eldre'thalas for me. That IP pops up on netstat no matter what server I am logged into. The Unique IP I am seeing for ET is 12.129.233.186, which ARIN tells me is located in Texas.

You should be looking at the IP with the port 3724 behind it, it should be 12.129.233.48:3724.
