Currently just got back on wow. And I have 174 hit rating and 13 expertise (with SoV glyph). And I read that 263 is the cap for hit and 23 for expertise (human). So I'm pretty far off from those. Should I gem for them? Or continue doing pure str
I recall that as long as you are that far from removing yer miss/dodge-risk the
biggest dps-gain is to get the hit and exp you need to avoid those misses/dodges.
I think hit goes before exp tho if you have to choose, since judgements cant be dodged.
And you can get away with being just under exp, but you never want to be below hit-cap.
Ret is just my questing/offspec so im not 100%... but that´s what i go after when gearing.
always be AT hit cap. PERIOD. no questions asked. do w/e it takes.
NEVER be above hit cap if you can help it.
expertise is pretty meh. i have 1 piece of expertise gear from my 4set. thats it. all i'm getting. 21 expertise is enough. no real need to hit the cap.
Im doing fine, and Im under the (spell) hit capOriginally Posted by Copain

str/hit in yellow socket with str bonus
this is true, but why use 2 gems if 1 is enough?Originally Posted by Nienniora
i've calculated it. i was in his exact same problem a few weeks back, when i got my cloak. the difference between 2 STR/hit gems or 1 STR gem and 1 hit gem was *drumroll* 4 DPS. now, for a min-maxer, that might be enough to regem, but for the average DPS paladin, 4 DPS is less than what skill can make up for.
edit: what i mean by this, is that that 4 DPS difference is less than what you can gain by reacting faster to your 2PT10, or even get an extra crit.
Say you have Red socket and Yellow socket, with a +5 STR bonus.Originally Posted by Nienniora
You could put 2 str/hit gems in both, and come out with 25 str and 20 hit.
You could put 1 str gem in the red socket and 1 hit gem in the yellow socket, and come out with 25 str and 20 hit.
+5 str bonus? impair strenght bonus, not sure those existOriginally Posted by Ronark
20str in the red slot
str/crit in the yellow or str/hit if undercap
remplacing crit by hit is good, remplacing str by hit is not ideal and very much bad :-\
learning it right the 1st time is better then not knowing it until too late :POriginally Posted by nzall
Its the same math either way if you are 20 under the hit cap, which was the point I was trying to make.Originally Posted by Nienniora
