    Blizzard and the Authenticators/Hacked Players

So, I was looking at one of the WoW forums and I notice that a lot of players are getting hacked and authenticators put on their account. Most of them just say "HEYLOLHACKEDPLSHELP" and a blue responds shortly telling them the authenticator is removed.

So my question is, what is to stop someone from getting your account info, logging on the forums and asking to have the authenticator removed under the fake guise that you've been hacked? Is there some sort of system in place to prevent this or?

Im pretty sure they check up on these things, like check which account you are posting on then if the account details match up with the *hacked account* they will unlock the authenticator.

Normally you have to actually prove that it's your account before they will remove it.

I remember reading a blue response addressing this very question. They would not go into specifics at all about how they look into these things, but they posted to reassure that they have ways to make sure you are who you are depending on your post. I'll see if i can find it but it was a month or two ago or so, and you know how fast the forums can be...

Re: Blizzard and the Authenticators/Hacked Players

I actually lost my Authenticator one time and asked a GM about getting it removed. It turns out there is a long and pain in the ass process into getting it done. The simple way would be to have the Authenticator serial #, way # 2 is you must have the original key code for your game. If you do not have either of these then you actually have to fill out 2 forms with a ton of information and include a photo ID of yourself as well. You can print the forms, scan, fill them out and scan them back in and E-mail them, Fax them or god forbid Snail mail them to blizzard. This is what most people will have to do. There might be certain situations where Blizzard will act without needing this but I'm fairly certain they are few and far between.

    Before you log in:

Make sure the system is secure, you can use these programs to do so:

Once the system is secure change the password for the Battle.net account and the password for the email account registered to the Battle.net account

An email has been sent your way with more information. Please post again if you have any other questions.

We recommend putting your own Authenticator on the account as soon as possible to prevent further occurrences.

There's like 7 posts by a blue, just like that one, in there removing authenticators in that thread alone. As someone already answered, they do have ways to make sure someone doesn't remove a legit authenticator.

    Owned I guess. ;]
