My favorite has to be "Lazy Generation" by "The F-ups"

Could almost say most songs work well at a reasonably high volume. Even the slow, soothing ones get more effective with the volume turned bit up. Makes them more overwhelming. Usually keeping it low though to protect my hearing considering the amount of music I listen to.

All in all, if we talk about "workout music" to get you to the proper mental state I tend to lean towards Dark Tranquillity - Lost to Apathy. There are many others, but I find this song especially good for running.

For activities like cycling which aren't as physically demanding - could say traveling in general - I lean towards softer music like Pink Floyd or Porcupine Tree. One of my personal favourites might be Porcupine Tree - Trains (couldn't find original unmodified version from YouTube) which while not the band's best song works great for this purpose.

Oh crap! I forgot Dark Forest! Nothing like some melodic black metal to scare away nosy neighbors and Jehovah's Witnesses alike!
