    Moonkin blue gem socket

How much SP should a socket bonus have to make a SP/Spi gem better than a pure SP gem in a blue socket? (Assume meta is already active)

I ask because my mate told me that SP/Spi is nearly always better than SP in blue sockets, but the guides only mention blue gems to activate the meta.

    8 or higher yeah.

    12 + 7 + (10*1.12*0.3) = 22.36, only slight below a pure red gem but still below it.

Wrist/Ring/Neck/Cloak are all +5 SP (if applicable), and that would be the only instance when you would use a single blue to get a bonus. Ilvl264+ belts/boots are usually 2 sockets, and would give a +7 SP, if applicable.

EDIT: Red/Red/Blue on Chest/Legs with a +9 SP... only one I can think of.

    Easy calculation:
    Red gem: 23 SP
    Purple Gem: 12Sp+10spi (10spi = 3 SP from improved monkin form) = 15 SP
If bonus is <8, you lose from gemming purple
If bonus is 8 SP, you break even
If bonus is >8, you gain from gemming purple.

As a side note, obviously, when you are gemming with blue gems to activate your meta, try and use sockets that has bonuses that gives the most to spell power. You probably wont find more than one or two.
