Tanks are tanks because they are loud, pampered (tanks get their own transports/railbeds, special treatment etc), draw a lot of unwanted attention and require absolutely huge amounts of attention from dedicated specialists (machanics). And at the end of the day the regular Joe forgives all that, and then some, when a friendly tank rumbles in and bails him out.
