i did read the kitty dps post didnt really tell me what i needed to know or perhaps it did just in a way i didnt understand.
so i pretty much have a newly made 80 feral druid and i was wondering since most of the gear seems to be ArPless unless u raid what is the best gems for just the t9 and any of the other 232 gear i eventually get?
i so far put some 20 agility gems in cause sumone at one point said it was the way to go but even if i have a small ArP % would that help me more then gemming for agility? or not or what should i gem for? coz i really dont know.
Agility gems in red sockets and agi/crit or agi/haste in yellow sockets are the best to start out with. Once you get some T10 pieces and the scorpion from FoS, you'll want to start gemming arpen towards the 722 softcap.
Mihir, I would have to disagree on the Agility/Haste. Haste is only useful once your crit capped. Until then I would go for Agility/Crit for any yellow slots. Crits = more damage and more chances to gain more combo points. Haste (for now, will change in Cataclysm) only affects our melee attack swings which in lower tier doesn't amount to as much damage as a kitty in ICC gear. Granted Haste also allows for more OoC, which allows for an extra Shred, but I find until ICC, haste isn't as useful. As for blue slots, find the piece of gear (with a blue socket) that gives the most agility socket bonus and place (for now) an Enchanted Tear (http://www.wowhead.com/item=42702). Once you start getting some ToC and ICC gear you can replace that Tear with a Nightmare Tear (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49110). Having either tear will actually fulfil your requirement for your Relentless Earthsiege Diamond (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41398) by itself. If you do not have a piece of gear with a blue socket, then you can place the tear wherever you want.
As for ArP, I wouldn't even bother with it until either 2 things happen.
a) You get lucky and get a Needle Encrusted Scorpion (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50198) from H-FoS. Then if you have about 500 or so static ArP (ArP from gear, not with gems), then start aiming for Soft Cap on ArP (for the NES, that would be 722 ArP with gems).
b) You get a ton of ICC gear and get around 900 Static ArP from gear, then go for ArP hard cap.
Maybe haste is better in blues, but the amount of time it takes to get full 232 iLevel isn't that long now-a-days (even for a casual player who doesn't play that often). So for them to first gear for Agility/Haste only to switch to full Agility/Crit in a matter of a few days could leave a new person confused ("do I go with crit or haste? I don't know"). That is why it would be better to get people to start getting the idea of going with crit early, instead of "the top kitty stacks haste, so I better go with haste" without knowing why they are stacking haste.
I'm not that conviced that is correct. Even back in 3.2, I remember RAWR suggesting Crit over haste. This was before the ArP nerf, granted but I just remember seeing haste only becoming better once people were in ICC gear.
