They could just be pulling your leg. Pretty much everyone was speculating how this was the maelstrom/emerald dream expansion, with vashj and old gods in it.
No, they pulled Deathwing out of their sleeve and decided to revamp all the old content. And i'm happy they did so, because the old quest content sucked monkey balls compared to wrath.
