That's what I was thinking, it might not be THE Maelstrom, just a whirlpool that formed around the hole Deathwing made when he popped out of Deepholme.

Unless of course the Maelstrom simply appears way bigger on the map than it actually is.
Someone mentioned that perhaps the Maelstrom was actually an actual maelstrom like the one we're seeing, and a magical storm that's way larger. Dunno.

Seeing the size of the actual hole in the picture I am glad. I am playing tauren, and I bet I won't fit into that hole, I'll be completely stuck Maybe jumping to there with a gnome ganker, and woops, he falls down into the hole and drowns, while I softly (erhm) sit there in the hole, enjoying peggle

I'm fairly certain the entrance (deathwings exit) from deepholme is Just north of Stormwind city, Deathwing's Scar (his trail) runs from there all the way to Twilight Highlands (at least in the Alpha Sandbox)

Yes, however in the press tour, blizzard told the press that they changed their minds, and deathwing now comes out of the Maelstrom.
