    3 Factions instead of 2?

With each side of the war at the brink of civil war, what would the possibilities be if races from each faction broke off to make a third coalition? There's enough playable races to make a 3 faction system with 4 races each.

In theory, if this were to happen, what would the factions be?

This couldn't happen. Think about it.

Even with Varian being douchey, why would Night Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Draenei and Worgen leave the Alliance? Their differences aren't that big.

The only factions leaving the Horde would be Forsaken.

Thrall convinced Vul'jin not to leave.

If they wanted to make a third faction, they would just make a new game. Probably less work than reworking the entire world around three factions instead of two.

The only ones who would leave are the forsaken, but it won't happen. Blizzard doesn't want 3 factions.

They'd have to rework the very mechanics of the game, not to mention the PvP overhaul. Since they're already doing a reworked Azeroth in Cata, I doubt they'd want to do anything like it again for a long time.

oh ye and suddenly all the guilds split up, cuz... undeads and orcs cant play together anymore cuz they are enemies?

Three factions won't happen in WoW. The closest I could ever see is a "neutral" faction that you then choose a side at a suitably low level, but even that is pushing it.

Game balance and PvP implications are massive.

In freaking theory. I know it won't happen, but the OP topic is what would these factions be if that were to happen. Its like High Elves becoming Blood Elves then joining the Horde and completely forgetting how to speak human. "Oh that would never happen, doesn't even make sense." Or the scourge splitting in two sides and having one of them join the Horde among races like the Tauren who stand totally against what the Forsaken are. "Oh that's unrealistic and they won't go that far." Or Paladin aliens from another planet who get their spaceship hijacked by renegade Blood Elves. "Yeah right, lorelol."

Blizzard has said time and time again that they would work the story around what they wanna do, not what the lore points them to. If they wanted 3 factions, they could sure make it happen. Hell, we have Tauren Paladins now for crying out loud.

most likely it would be the trolls forsaken worgen and probably gnomes are the most likely to form a new faction, but realisticly only forsaken would leave and sylvanas wouldnt let that happen

This. Think about just battlegrounds even... that's major major change

Yeah, because trolls and gnomes just love each other, and obviously worgen and the Forsaken would be best buddies if it weren't for pesky faction ties.

WTF? If any existing races would split off from their faction, the only one that makes a lick of sense is the Forsaken.

While this is interesting, lore wise somewhat possible and balance wise true, removing players ability to play with long time friends and guild mates because their selected race randomly joined a different faction is a horrible idea that would garner nothing good and potentially cause people to quite the game instead of spending money on a race change.

    It will never happen.

    Terrible idea.

Would have to right a bunch of different lore to back it up, and re-do a bunch of stuff in-game.

Notice the bold, he is not saying it will, he is asking a hypothetical question.

As this question has been posed many times in multiple formats, I'm going to stick with the answer I have used before.

    The Bolstered Alliance
Same as before, but with some blood elf seperatists joining the alliance. Quite possibly this may cause some nelfs to leave and maybe join separate faction with Worgen as the Nelfs have a seething disdain for Belfs due to them being descended from high elves.
    Vs.
    Forsaken-Belf
    Forsaken and the remaining belfs
    Tauren + Trolls
Apart from the more war-like grimtotem clan most tauren join the Trolls
Orcs + Bilgewater Goblins (And Grimtotem Clan if they don't go off as a separate faction)
A partnership mostly for protection and for military aid. (Goblins supply weapons, Orcs defend Goblins)

Easily doable in lore, like Vol'Jin who breaks up with Garrosh, the obvious Forsaken leaving the Horde, but it's close to impossible to do due to game mechanics.

You'd have to create...different flight paths, quest hubs, new raids? considering the Forsaken would care shit about killing Deathwing, but all they would like is to kill...everything, what about the AH? Reputation with factions?
