Some major manufacturer computers use a proprietary case.
What is your old computer?
ok so i have been looking a little more and this is what i have come up with:
Motherboard: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...23027&csid=_21
Processor: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CatId=4731RAM
Ram: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...37614&csid=_25
Graphics card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...907&CatId=3669
as for the hared drive i have 2 options
1. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...y=#ReviewStart
2. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...y=#ReviewStart
and the power supply is this but i am not sure if i need a better one or not
PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...149&CatId=1079
well to be totally honest i was going to use the case i am using for this current computer and put these parts into a really old computer i have laying around, and just throw the parts in that computer away

and to be totally honest idk what my old computer is it says HP on the outside and thats all i really know about it besides it has a black case and no graphis card or anything useful, and only a 40GB hard drive, also i need help deciding which HDD to get and if i will need to upgrade the PSU

HP cases often are designed for mATX standard motherboards, and you can not fit regular ATX inside it. Specs sheet in HP website will tell it in a roundabout way which size is it. Also if the computer is old enough to come with 40GB HDD, it has way too old PSU to power the new computer.

all i am useing is my black case, which now if ur correct... i cant use
What's the exact model of your HP computer? It should say it somewhere in the case. Or if you have opened it and looked inside, you can tell if the motherboard is even square or more like postcard-shaped. If it's even square and has 1-2 expansion slots, it's mATX and most likely your case will not handle full-sized ATX motherboards.

There is a post on here about someone who has a HP computer and added a new video card and PSU to it and has massive heat issues due to poor airflow in the HP case.
Just get a case that doesn't fail.
Some proprietary builds also use the BTX "standard". They're almost identical in size to ATX, but have a different layout, making it impossible (at least the vast majority of the time) to swap to an ATX board.
how could i find out which layout it is?
What's the exact model of your HP computer? Or you can check it from HP's site yourself to be sure.

Yep, it's mATX type case. Should've said from the start it's smaller than normal computers.

ok so this is the case i am likeing due to price and looks, but i have 2 other options, i am trying to keep this low price but please feel free to vocalize ur oppinion
the one i like: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A406-1094
other 2 options: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A107-3016
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A107-3016
ok so my friend suggested a different motherboaRD AND CPU and now idk which to use they are both Asus and here they are
what i chose :http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...162&CatId=4725
with the cpu i chose :http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CatId=4731RAM
and here is what he said : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...065&CatId=4296
with one of these 2 CPU
Quad: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...702&CatId=3496
6 core:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1&Sku=A79-1055
and then after this i need someones help from someone i dont entirely understand the whole PSU thing
He recommended an AMD processor. They're fine but Intel is a generation ahead of AMD as far as processor design goes so an intel chip will be faster (For the i5 or i7s if you can't afford one of those go amd).
And a 6 core cpu isn't utilized by games now so it isn't worth much as far as performance goes.
well his veresion is a little cheaper which is alwasy nice, but preformance wise how big of a diffeerance would they be if i were say playing wow on ultra settings
