One thing I find interesting though is how she claims her name is Amy (besides her username being Oneamy), because Amy isn't a Chinese name but a common Chinese American name. Her real name would obviously be something else.

I actually have met really nice gold sellers before, time I actually kept in contact with this one girl for months (I'm not some old creeper) and she wouldn't ever try to sell me gold. Just kind of a friendly relationship, but every male gold seller I've encountered stopped talking to me when I said that I didn't want to buy gold. It's always the young nice women that stick around and talk =D

What's more interesting is some of the replies. Trying to make the gold seller out as a victim and nice person just doesn't make it into my book.

Maybe the next time your house is burglarized or you yourselves are mugged, send a few bucks to the fence that is pawning your watch and mobile, since they are obviously a "victim" and "nice person". When I read that they "farm" the gold I lol'd. Maybe if the gold seller tried actually farming her parents' apple orchirds she would not have to be an accomplice to theft, but what am I saying... that would be actual and legitimate work.

Clearly you don't know much about the situation in China. Young people migrate to cities to find work to support their families back in countryside farms. Most of these jobs are still very poorly paid but still much more than a farm would make, and this is how countries like China get out of a lower standard of living and into the modern world more. Completly different from what you say, and if you were in the same situation I think you'd do the same.

They're not bad people at all, they're just doing a job that would make no money if done state side and people hate their solicitation more than telemarketers. It's pretty rough the work and living conditions where they spend 15 hrs a day working for nickels and are expected to support themselves or like she said, her traditional fmaily outside of the city. They did a great documentary about the Chinese facilities that work for walmart. They live in these cubicle apartments with no air condition, a community bathroom, no privacy and then they have to pay the company they work for rent for the sesspool. Can't hate the people, gotta hate the companies that force them into dismal jobs. Hopefully someday China and a few other 3rd world nations will be able to develop a workers rights organization withouth the threat of being arrested and disappearing.

I had a similar conversation with a gold seller while running CoT:Strat shortly after LK had launched (I remember we had wiped, but no one was upset, so it must've been around launch :P )

He was very polite, and answered all my stupid questions. I also chatted with a power leveler who was leveling a tauren warrior about my shaman's level. We met him when he offered to pay us to run him through ZF several times, and when my friend asked if I could come for some quests and xp, he actually seemed pretty excited. People didn't usually want to talk to him since it was pretty obvious English wasn't his first language, and a LOT of people were getting hacked around that time, so he was like a leper.

He was awesome. Way nicer than the guy who actually owns the toon.

Interesting conversation. I don't approve of the gold selling industry since it ruins the game, and I bet they're often responsible for account hijacks, but at least they're creating some job opportunities in China.

Poor people, it must be incredibly hard to live off such low pay. I guess there are worse alternatives to gain money though.

imagine sitting 15 people with 15 computers running in a tiny office with no air condition that must be rough, now to contribute to the topic i often have a chat with a goldfarmer who surprisingly is a hungarian and while he after tormenting me for month have understood that he cant persuade me he just have a chat every now and then on msn whats even more strange is that this guy is doing it because he find farming fun since he according to himself have no financial problems even without the gold farming business.
