I miss the one button macro tanking, might have been boring but I could watch tv.

Tanking always keeps u aware and you always come prepared to raids.
You can get away by joining as a scrub DPS, but you always need to be optimaly prepared as a tank.
Also, it's the most funnest and rewarding (mentally) role.
