Firstly, if this or something similar has been posted, apologies... I clearly fail at searching :P

Now, looking over the planned spread of buffs, debuffs and "utilities" between classes, it seems to me that the difference between hybrid classes and non-hybrid classes keeps narrowing. This is perfectly understandable, though, given Blizzard's philosophy of "Bring the player, not the class". However, would hybrid tax still be required / applied in cataclysm, considering the wider spread of utilities?

What I mean is, whilst the warrior swapping spec to offtank an add for some encounter is certainly pretty damn handy (or a pally swapping to healing, or whatever), the mage swapping to frost and CCing some mob to infinity is certainly no less useful? Especially if said mage still provides some quality buffs / debuffs and dps.

Also, let's be honest, characters nowadays are so specialised for a given role that their "hybridness" is severely diminished. A ret pally may put out "some" healing, but it's unlikely to keep someone alive for any meaningful amount of time. A warrior may slap on a shield, pop shield wall and taunt a boss, but he probably won't survive for very long after shield wall is down. The point is, with the amount of specialisation for any given role, hybrids are generally brought for what they do in their mainspec, not emergency healing or tanking.

So, my question to the MMO-Champion community: Would hybrid tax still be needed / used in Cataclysm, considering the much wider spread of buffs, debuffs and utilities?
