    Social aspect of WoW.

This isn't banter or anything it's just an observation of my experience in this game.

This may just be my own personal experience (probably is) but I just realised how it's a pretty crap experience to come back to the game after being away for so long. I raided for a few years back in OG WoW and TBC, being a nerd raiding 4-5 nights a week ( how the fuck did I even manage that I can't answer, looking at it now it seems impossible to do) Spending so many hours and nights with the same people for years. I was good "friends" with a lot of people on my server and guild, well known, extremely reliable with 100% raid attendance, 110% performance, great attitude, no hard feelings when I decided it was time to quit the game, no negative feelings towards me or anyone I knew. I still keep in contact with a few friends or maybe I should say acquaintances. I came back to the game a few weeks ago after not being around for more than a year and people I use to play with didn't really want much to do with me after saying a few catch up words. I am not talking about everyone I use to play with, but I'd say about 90% of the people I use to talk with, and spend hours and months and years with playing this game show little to zero care about someone returning to the game.

In my experience it seems like unless you're part of the "crew" at the time and or a main-raider, most WoW players do not want to have anything to do with you. I know people don't do it on purpose or to be mean, but it's sort of like an automatic reaction for a WoW player to alienate people that haven't been around or knows whats up. I use to do it myself back when people returned, now I know why all these people would come back and then just not fit back in and would quickly disappear again, the "crew" at the time would just alienate people that haven't been around or not worth anything to the current goal of the guild, I am also guilty of this in the past back when people would come back after a long-break so I don't feel like it's anything against me personally.

Anyone else experienced this from either point of view? Share your experience even if it's similar.

    Well, heres the thing

I too have seen the whole "hey, yeah, k, alright" aspect of conversation when it comes to long time friends or people you where close with, it is a bit disheartening, but most people who do play wow atm only log on to raid, get that done and log off. I too was in the whole aspect of just raiding then logging off back in the day, i didnt feel like talking to people, since anytime i ever got a tell was asking for gold, asking to be run through something, or asked to tank something retarded like MC or being begged to join some group of fresh 80s trying to do icc25man

now the whole alienate thing, thats also a occurring thing that happens to players of my experience throughout the years of paying my wowcrack addiction (vanilla player). Its nice not to be bugged, i like it when days go by and i dont receive 1 tell, im usually farming gnomes for their succulent meat, or working my way to of the horde achievement, and im not really interested on hearing life stories lol, its terrible to say, but people now a days, on wow, just irritate me. Now dont get me wrong, i have people i talk to, random people i help, i run random people through instances free of charge, i tank for my friend who is a 77 and tanking normals for him (people seeing my gear in normal nexus tends to make them spam me, defeating the whole purpose of people staying quite)

overall, its usually the wow community that makes wow players alienate...wow players lol

TL;DR- annoying people = anti social moments

Very very true, it's just the games elitism shot up with iLevel inflation & the dreaded gearscore so now people look at a four digit number and assume far too much.

A few months back i moved away from the guild i has been in all through leveling, all through ulduar, totc and the start of ICC. I held an officer position, and i raidlead. I moved away from the server completly and pretty much ceased to speak to any of them, as loverly as they all were. I then took a three month break after raiding every night and it just got too much. I came back a few weeks ago and, well i've had none of your experiance, i know it isnt as long term but i was accepted back into my old guild and it was as if i had never left.

However on the other end of the spectrum. The guild i was in had been around since the very start and understandably some of the memebers have been there for the duration, and a guy poped up on the guild forums back from vanilla, expecting to be remebered, he however was not. You forget that we come into contact with hundreds of people. Within the guild im in a good portion of the people on my server have been in the guild at some point on on charecter or another.
    It may be nothing personal!

I was a guild leader in a very large guild and for the most part I enjoyed it and had alot of good friends..Eventually drama started and I ended up losing friends and spending all my play time baby sitting ppl over stupid crap. I have been guildless for about 2 yrs now..Honestly I enjoy the game more that way. I can concentrate on my own toons without having to fly here to help someone or run someone through a dungeon (although occasionally i enjoy that) I just find it easier to play a game when it stays a game and not an added source of stress that i pay $15.00 a month for.

I personally haven't seen this, I've reconnected with a few old friends (having been on 4 different servers) through RealID as well and it has all been very welcomed. I've seen other people in my guild do the same especially with people who used to raid and renewed their subscriptions recently. Any negative interactions I've seen have come from people newer to the guild who weren't around when the other people were.
