    Fear of depthts while swimming

So, there was this one thread "Fear of heights while flying" but many people including me was scared of the water in wow when you cant see alot in it.
Im wondering WHY you are scared of it cause for me im scared of it becuase of the Jak and Dexter game i think where a huge fish eats you in the ocean, i played that as a kid and got eaten by the fish and was then to scared of that fish.

WHY are you scared of oceans in wow if you are?

    Pic of the fish-

I don't get this. I'm afraid of heights and moths/butterflies (fuck off) myself, but I have absolutely no fear of them at all in game because it does not even approach the realm of realism. Maybe if you super-immersed yourself which bordered on hypnotism it might affect you, but c'mon, either your fears have reached incredible heights (pun intended) or this is an exaggeration.

I am scared of it because of Super Mario 64.

Every time I see deep water, I think that giant freaking eel is going to come out of nowhere and eat me. >.>

No problem with the heights thing but I'm absolutely terrified of natural bodies of water. Swimming pools are cool, but beyond that I won't go near them. And it's not the water I'm afraid of, it's the things in the water. You can't see what's in there and there are a LOT of nasty things in water. Google image search for Angler Fish. I know it's an extreme example, but yea....

I'm not looking forward to an entire underwater zone.

It all depends on the scale of fear, also most can play with no impact on the game itself. It just makes you feel uneasy

Phobia is defined as an IRRATIONAL fear of something. You're trying to rationalize it, therefore any argument you derive from it is flawed.

Because of raids in Vanilla who summoned random lowbies to the bottom of a big lake on Hyjal (after hours of walljumping) while buffed with Underwater Breathing.

At that time there was no 3 minute underwater breath, so most of em never made it to the top, mainly because when they finally zoned in, it took em a while to realise they were underwater. Then it was dying and ressing at Ashenvale spirit healer, for no chance to get back.
Damn good fun times, whispering lowbies "hey wanna join raid, we can summon". I'm a big carebear, no world pvp fan (it's just ganking while someone is doing an escort quest anyway), but I loved doing that.

I think the underwater zone is pretty good atm, but one of the "main" quests is bugged so you can't even complete half the zone...

I have no fear of water in real life, and while I have some height issues (when on/in an open vessel, such as a Ferris Wheel and even ladders, but not airplanes) the in-game flying doesn't bother me at all.

But Emerald Weapon from FF7... That caused my fear of ocean environments in games. I hated using the submarine, and if I did ever use it I always stayed at the surface. The thought of having to fight that massive machine was horrifying to me, especially when he would sneak up on you. I was constantly turning my camera to avoid it!

Phobias are not rational. As you probably realises yourself, judging from your little comment abour your own fear of Moths/Butterflies.

My sister will scream and throw the paper across the room if she turns a page and there is a photo of a spider in it. Drawings are OK if they are not extremely detailed/realistic. Now, the odd thing is that she can deal with small real spiders, or even big ones behind solid glass (like at the zoo - she don't like them, but she can deal with them), but if they pop up unexpected in a picture she freaks out. Rational? Not in the slightest. real phobia? You betcha. Btw - my sister is 41 years old, married and have 2 kids. It's not a childs overreaction.

There is no correlation between what triggers a phobia and where the actual danger associated with the phobia occurs (Or truth be told - whether there really is an actual danger associated with a particualr phobia).

I'm the same, the 'ledges' in fatigue area's out at sea get me bad, i think it was a combination of the jaws poster where you can just see the ring of teeth coming up out of the darkness to swallow the guy hole and that bit in the original half life when the walkway collapses and you fall into that water where you cant see more than 5 feet and you just get this giant mutated fish go at you....and yes Vashj'ir will probably kill me, along with the whale shark
