It should play games fine but your money could be spent better.

Video is a Palit GTS450. Main display is a 24" full HD TV. Secondary display is an ACER 19" lcd at 1440x900.

Thanks but that's not very helpful lol

I'm also considering building my own, and having read various mags, blogs and review sites, I think the following would work well together for approx 1200. This is just for the tower though.

    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Motherboard
    Intel Core i7 950
    Asus GTX480 1536MB GDDR5
    Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800 1600MHz
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB (split 300GB to take advantage of increased speeds)
    Corsair TX 950W power supply
    Antec 1200 case
I'm a little concerned that the power supply isn't ideal and haven't factored in anything other than the cooler supplied with the CPU retail pack.

The corsair TX 950W has had stability issues with a few Motherboards. I wouldnt take the risk and either go for a 900w or 1000w

Have you considered buying an SSD for the system drive, and using the HDD only for storage ?

Could save a few bucks and get the 750 instead of the 950.

The build you linked is much better IMHO.

Better processor, better video, and a much much better PSU. And no silly unnessary ram or goofy Harddisk setup.

Although the i7 950 is twice the price of an i7 930 and doesn't preform twice as fast. I would get the 930, and with the extra cash get a nice cooler and overclock it.

The retail cooler is fine if you don't overclock very much.

If hes just gaming the 750/760 is the same as the 930 minus HT.

that too. The extra $300 spent on an i7 950 is not going to be noticeable gaming.

I'm going to hold off on buying an SSD, most reviews say the tech isn't quite perfected yet and that the price will drop quite a bit within 12 months. I can always add one next year.

I originally looked at the 750 but I'll be using this for work too which will involve some video editing, so figured the 930/950 would offer some time saving. Going for 950 because overclockers has a great deal on it at the moment, 950 for 234.99 or 930 for 208.99. Unless I'm missing something there lol.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

i7-930 is being phased out and replaced by the 950 anyway.
