VGA is analog cable and gives some kind of approximation of the picture. HDMI or DVI gives pixel perfect digital picture. Unless there's something wrong with the TV, there is no possibility of VGA connector giving as good picture as HDMI/DVI.

Idk if this will show up as it is to me, but im now home, im connected via hdmi cable, and im in 1920x1080 res. And it looks awful compared to before.
I don't see anything terribly wrong with it, but screenshot from PC wouldn't really show the difference anyway from what your TV can or can't show. Put WoW also into 1920x1080 widescreen resolution, and either fullscreen or windowed-maximized. That should remove all scaling problems.

Or hmm... What exactly is the brand/model of the TV? Is it even FullHD or so old that the panel is just 1380x768 sized and it's "HD Ready"?

Its not going to be a digital picture, but a SVGA cable can produce an image up to 2048 x 1536. Which falls under 1920x1080. SVGA cables actually have better colors than HDMI, though HDMI, etc are getting closer.

You as an average consumer are not going to notice the difference on your home tv/computer between vga and hdmi.

Computer graphics is generated purely digital, flat screen TV's display purely digital picture. Therefore the image carried over digital cable in 1's and 0's is going to be always exactly what was intended. Using VGA cable does one digital-to-analog conversion in PC and another analog-to-digital conversion in TV giving all kinds of digitizing artifacts, and the picture quality can not be as good under any circumstances. Some fuzziness that comes from digitizing artifacts and analog syncing issues might look more natural to people because people are used to shitty picture quality from SD TV era, but it's not really an option when you need to have readable 8 pixel font on computer screen.

Also, yes, in theory SVGA cable can carry 2048x1536 HD image, but in practice it wont. The average cables that are shipped with computers/monitors are very low quality and the maximum resolution is somewhere between 1024x768 and 1600x1200. Getting full 2k * 1.5k picture requires $100 VGA cable... Or a $10 HDMI cable... There really is absolutely no justifiable reason to use VGA cables anywhere anymore unless VGA is the only connector available in one of the devices. If both ends support HDMI, why not use cheaper and lighter cable that gives better quality?

Everything looks normal to me. I'm not really sure what looks wrong to you in those screenshots, unless it's some digital distortion between the computer and TV that's not coming across in screenshots.

perhaps it might have something to do with the 50mb of addons using to many resources?

  6. #26
Yea I guess I can only see whats wrong. It's a Viore 46" HDTV, and on my screen everything is just blurry. It's not clear at all.

My addons add up to 60MiB+. Usually 75MiB once Skada is full of data. 50MiB isn't straining any computer with more than 1GB RAM.

    Screenshot looks fine.

    Consult an optician.

Is it blurry when staying stationary, or just when moving?

When I google for the TV first hit is forum thread with plenty of complaints about the quality of the TV and no datasheet anywhere which isn't really encouraging.

Anyway, finally found some info from Amazon's site. The TV has 720p panel only (it's DLP projection TV, not LCD or plasma) which explains why 1080p picture is shit quality. The maximum pixel perfect resolution from WoW and Windows you should use with the TV is just 1280x720 and not higher.

Yes and as Vesseblah said. USE 1280x720 RESOLUTION

Your TV basically sucks for computer use. It's 720p (HD Ready) instead of 1080p (FullHD) which is really unusual nowadays on 46" size. Use 1280x720 resolution on Windows and WoW, and you will have pixel perfect quality on HDMI/DVI.

Yeah 1280x720 on a 46" sounds pretty bad.. Especially with a VGA cable! Use DVI!

VGA is more than capable of sending the correct image in HIGHER color bandwidth than HDMI. Please don't spout such random bullshit. Please and thanks.

I answered to this drivel already in post #23.

Analog connectors and cables like VGA belong to trash heap. I recommend coming to the 21st century and check out Dual Link DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI 1.4.

A VGA cable/connection is capable of sendind data at up to 2048x1536px @85 Hz. So 1920x1080 falls under this. RGB sends true analog data video data. It is actually the most pure way to get said information.

DVI-D and HDMI are the same, send audio also, but are digital and do not have the same quaility of color that a VGA connection is able to send.

As a normal consumer you will not normally be able to tell the difference between a HDMI/DVID/DisplayPort connection vs a VGA cable.

You're badly outdated in all aspects of this post.

Whole production chain of Hollywood movies has moved purely digital from 'filming' to editing to projection in theatres. Same thing at homes with DVD/BluRay source and LCD/DLP based TV's and projectors. Messing up with any analog technologies along the way will only degrade the quality. It will not offer any kind of improvements or be more 'pure'. You might have an argument with analog reproduction of music from mic to tape deck to vinyl to tube amps, but not in home theatres or with home computers.

Especially for normal consumers HDMI is massive quality of life improvement. No longer you have to play with separate audio and video cables, no longer you need to pull inch thick video cables to get decent picture 30ft away around the room like you did with VGA or component video. HDMI gives both audio and video in small and light cable with just one plug between the devices. It really couldn't be any easier or more user friendly. The up and coming 3D TV's also need more bandwidth than analog cables can deliver, and that's what HDMI 1.4 is all about.

And yes, especially with normal home computers you see the difference between VGA and DVI fastest. The VGA cables supplied with monitors aren't good enough for even close to FullHD picture and you have all kinds of sync issues at 1600x1200 or higher resolutions. When moving to 'enthusiast' level technology and 27" monitors with 2560x1600 panels analog cables bite steaming pile of shit, and the only way to get that kind of resolutions are with DVI-D or DisplayPort.

Amazing that I've never had an issue with VGA at 1920x1080 then, or 1600x1200. As I said, normal consumers.
