    Memories of the Past (Felwood video)

    Questing in Felwood has a new series of quests given by a demon hunter called Feronas Sindweller where you see mini events between lore characters in the past. Illidan in his night elf form, his demon form, Arthas, Tyrande Whisperwind, Malfurion Stormrage and Tichondrius appear during these few quests.

    Here is the link to a short video I frapsed of this chain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAWXfP0LvSk

    Below is the full transcript of the events:

    Quest: A Destiny of Flame and Sorrow

    Illidan Stormrage: I am free after ten thousand years, yet still my own brother thinks I am a villain! I'll show him my true power! I'll show him that the demons have no hold over me!

    Arthas: Are you certain of that, demon hunter? Are you certain your will is your own?

    Illidan Stormrage: You reek of death, human. You'll regret approaching me.

    Arthas: Come then. You'll find that we're evenly matched.

    <Battle commences>

    Illidan Stormrage: We could go on fighting like this forever. What is it you truly want?

    Arthas: The dreadlord who commands this undead army is called Tichondrius. He controls a powerful warlock artifact called the Skull of Gul'dan. It is responsible for corrupting these forests.

    Illidan Stormrage: And you wish for me to steal it. Why?

    Arthas: Let's just say that I have no love for Tichondrius, and the lord I serve would... benefit from the Legion's downfall.

    Quest: The Skull of Gul'dan

    Illidan Stormrage: That is where the skull of Gul'dan is being kept! These paltry demons will not prevent me from claiming it!

    <Demons spawn and attack Illidan>

    Illidan Stormrage: Now at least the demons will no longer corrupt the forests. But, if I claim this power as my own, I will become stronger than any of Archimonde's lieutenants.

    <Illidan walks towards the skull of Gul'dan>

    Illidan Stormrage: Yes.. the power should be mine!

    <Illidan kneels down to retrieve the artifact>

    Illidan: Now I am complete!

    <Illidan transforms into his demonic form>

    Quest: The Fall of Tichondrius

    Tichondrius: What? Who are... you?

    Illidan Stormrage: Let's see how confident you are against one of your own kind, dreadlord.

    <Tichondrius and Illidan begin fighting>
    <Illidan defeats Tichondrius>
    <Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrange Whisperwind appear>

    Malfurion Stormrage: Foul demon! What have you done with my brother?

    Illidan Stormrage: It is I, Malfurion. This is what I've become.

    Tyrange Whisperwind: No! Illidan, how could you?

    Illidan Stormrage: The leader of the undead has been destroyed, and the forests will heal in time.

    Malfurion Stormrage: At the cost of your soul? You are no brother of mine! Begone from this place, and never set foot in our lands again!

    Illidan Stormrage: So be it... brother.

    <Illidan Stormrage fly's away>

    About time they reference this.

    It's nice to have some more showcasing of Illidan after his pretty much absense in TBC.

    I didn't even watch the cinematic for TBC until a while after release, so I was completely oblivious as to who the villian was. Figured it out when I got to Shadowmoon Valley because I didn't really pick up on the whole Illidari thing.

    Man I was hoping the whole Illidan/Felwood stuff would end up being a CoT instance, but this is fine too, it makes Felwood fun now, I guess.

    I know there is no love lost between Furion and Illidan, but to really banish so easily after he killed the commander of the Buring Legion's undead and saved the forest for further corruption.

    Wow, just wow.

    That and it makes it really sad how they killed him off in BC. Well since he was a demon hunter. I'm hoping and pray for Demonic feign death.
    Is the answer to the Question...

    Here is the wall of text taken from wowwiki which explains what's happening here:

    Illidan languished for 10,000 years in a lightless prison. Califax, a Keeper of the Grove, and a contingent of night elves (including Maiev Shadowsong) kept constant guard over the Betrayer. Release came at the unexpected hands of Tyrande, who slaughtered the night elf guards in the hopes of using Illidan against the Legion, which had returned to Azeroth at the hands of the Scourge. With his love for Tyrande undampened through the millennia of confinement, Illidan agreed to help. He swore to throw back the Legion and to depart from the night elves forever.

    Malfurion opposed Tyrande's decision, thinking the release of Illidan a catastrophic mistake. Frustrated that his brother remained unchanged and eager to prove to him that the demons had no hold over him, Illidan left Malfurion behind, leading a force of night elves into Felwood to hunt down the Legion. While in Felwood, he encountered Arthas, champion of the Lich King, and they engaged in combat. The fighters were equally matched, and the combatants reached an impasse. Illidan stopped the duel and demanded to know why Arthas had tracked him. Arthas responded openly, telling Illidan about the Skull of Gul'dan, the demonic artifact that had corrupted Felwood. He explained that if the artifact were destroyed, the corruption of the forests would halt. To ensure that Illidan would take the bait, Arthas spared no detail of the Skull's power, adding that his master knew of Illidan's thirst for power. Although Illidan did not trust Arthas, he nevertheless sought the Skull and its power out.

    A great Demon Gate defended the Skull as Illidan and his forces had to fight mightily to gain access to the artifact. Driven by necessity and influenced by the belief that with the increased power, he could at last redeem himself in the eyes of Tyrande, he shattered the demonic seal and used the Skull's powers for his own. Strength he found, but peril greater than power came to him at once. The battle for control of the Skull came with a heavy price and the artifact's powers changed him. Transformed into a demon, Illidan wrapped himself in shadow and utterly destroyed Tichondrius and his forces. But with victory came devastation. Tyrande and Malfurion sensed the demonic power lurking within Illidan and turned away with disgust and despair. Malfurion chastised his brother, convinced that Illidan had traded his soul for more power. Enraged, Malfurion banished his brother from the forests.

    The most powerful demons, Dreadlords specifically, can't be killed by conventional means. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch of the imagination if Illidan's demon half, essence, or something was banished leaving his soul intact and allowing him to return later.

    Most people would consider the Burning Legion to be the main enemy.

    Illidan felt like a forced fight to me.

    Blizzard are really pulling out everything they have for storytelling and lore revisitation. God damn.

    These little things in horrible zones are the kind of things I'll quest there to see!

    Hmm, that is truly just a word by word copy from what happened in warcraft 3.

    Yes it seems Malfurion is quick to banish Illidan, but don't forget he pulled off this abuse of power stuff before, so Malfurion already knew that Illidan simply could not be trusted, but this time neither could be contained.

    Here's hoping they revisited this lore so it could be built upon later. (That's not BC)

    IMHO what they should do to tie TBC in better, and streamline it more and to rightfully place Illidan as the most iconic figure in outland is update the fight to level 85, like they updated Onyxia, keeping a couple of his iconic pieces of loot, such as the Healer mace, and the badass shield and adding in a few well modeled items from sunwell and the rest of the Black temple.

    Then, have a few quests leading up to him, change the Dark Portal Area to resemble more of the demons breaking and flooding into azeroth, kind of playing in the urgency to go to outlands and kill off that threat, and giving Illidan his real time to shine, and effectively in a way making him the final boss of TBC.

    At least I can dream =[
    -Retribution, the path of the protector or mender brought to it's natural conclusion; destroying evil before the weak need to be shielded from it, and before it can wound the innocent.
