First time building computer

Hey there!!!!

I'm going to be building my first computer and I would kindly appreciate some guidance from the seasoned computer builders here. This is what I came up with for my price range ( $1800-$2000 )

I might switch out the optical drive but I'm happy with everything else. I just have 3 questions:

1) Does the mobo support the ram I have picked out? From what I can see it does, but it says overclocking in brackets next to the 1600MHz under memory supported for the mobo. This makes me second guess because I don't what this exactly means.

2) Is everything compatible?

3) Am I missing anything?

Other than that I double checked everything else and everything seems to be good to me. I don't want to change anything although tips and opinions are welcomed.

Ram will work it says Overclock because that ram is overclockable 1600 vs 1333mhz. I would grab a 1T HD its like a few bucks more. $300.00 bucks for I7-930 is alot where do you live? I see you listed thermal paste but no aftermarket cooler. You won't need thermal paste if you are using the stock cooler. I guess you could still use it but no need really. Just looked at the GPU price and its alot.

That motherboard is pretty expensive considering it doesn't even have USB3/SATA3, so you might want to reconsider it. Check also what Gigabyte has to offer, not only Asus. RAM should work just fine.

Thermal paste is not needed if you aren't going to overclock, and if you are, you'll also need a third party fan.

That Radeon 5870 is pretty expensive, and not as good in price/performance ratio as 2xGTX460 1GB if you need more 3D power. For WoW only just one GTX460 is more than enough.

Those prices are a bit high. I'd advise searching on Newegg.ca for better prices on the gear you want. I have shopped with them for many years in the states and they are fast, great prices and I havent had to deal with customer service yet but they are top notch from what I've heard.

Also I suggest this motherboard instead of your listed Asus.

ASUS Rampage III Gene LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0

With the money saved from buying on newegg canada instead of buying from tigerdirect, you could purchase the closed loop water cooling system from corsair and overclock your processor easily to make it even better bang for your buck if you felt comfortable doing that.

Newegg decided that it would be a cakewalk for them to enter the Canadian market, but they horribly under estimated their competition. Price, service, selection - NCIX has the advantage and is considered the best Canadian site for hardware.

It's simply just better.

Recap: Basically I'm trying to build my system around the GPU and CPU selected from before. I'm open to further suggestions! And thanks again for the NCIX site, that was a really REALLY good suggestion. It's much easier to get things for better prices when it's closer to home.

The motherboard you chose is an AMD socket AM3 motherboard, it won't work with the i7 930. You can price match with NCIX so make sure you're doing that, you should be able to cut about $100 - $200 off of the final cost.
Just taking your motherboard into consideration you can cut $25 off of the price by matching it with BestDirect.ca who have it for $225.75.
You're also missing a discount on the XFX 5870 that will drop the price another $30: 52233-1018.

All support my LGA 1366 socket for the i7 930. Now I'm checking to see which one of those best suits my needs for the price.

I'm probably going to go with the ASUS Sabertooth X58 or ASUS P6X58D-E X58

I will probably go with the ASUS P6X58D-E X58 though. The only difference is that it has OC features and the sabertooth doesn't? So I guess for future proof I should go with the ASUS P6X58D-E X58.
