I doubt he was never more than JUST an apprentice.

Remember, Khadgar was the apprentice of Medivh. Arthas was the apprentice of Uther. And hell, Darth Vader was the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi. My point is that having been the apprentice does not neccessarily mean that the person is a weaker being.

Basically a with doctor is the troll equivalant of a priest, if hes a witch doctor then HE IS a priest.
