    Wow Reaches 12 Million Players

So just a quick question for the community: When Blizzard posts these subscriber numbers, any idea if they take into account how many of those accounts are potentially "bogus" and being paid for by gold farmers, scam artists, etc? I'm just curious how the numbers are tabulated and what the criteria is for a "player."

I think WOW is the greatest game to date, and am not talking any sort of trash but numbers are commonly stretched for the sake of advertising.

Thanks in advance for those productive responses!

It says subscribers, not users, for a reason? It's just a flat number for the amount of active subscriptions, no interpretation about it. All it's really used to show is that the game is growing, from 11 million last year, and 6 million year(s) before that (don't even remember anymore >.>).

Blizz probably doesn't care, they want to exaggerate the numbers as much as they deem reasonable. They are also counting the accounts that are bought by the same credit card (hence 5 multi-boxing Ele shamans lol)

Just think more that all of New York City would be people playing WoW

If someone is paying for 5 accounts, that still counts as 5 active subscriptions. There really isn't any smoke and mirrors here, all Blizzard is claiming is that there are now 12 million active subscriptions.
