    Hard drive space for patch?

The downloader states the patch itself is 4.76 GB. The website states you actually need more than that to apply the patch. So how much space do I need to apply it? I had a little over 7 GB free prior to downloading (I can't get the exact number because I'm 25% into the download and the number is changing as I type this).

And please no comments about getting a bigger hard drive or new comp. Not in my budget for now. The new motorcycle takes priority.

I suggest deleting the 3.0 to 3.1 etc files to free up some space, and remove some programs you barely even use. Although you said not to suggest a new hard drive, but you can get them for $70-100, very cheap and easily affordable.

it was 4.76 gigs plus like another 1.5ish on top of that. Delete some stuff, no one needs that much porn anyways =o

The patch is also swapping some files on new MPQ and deleting old ones. The install process will modify 1 MPQ at a time, (as I've being experiencing nyway) So to get the maximum space required, the biggest old MPQ file size should be the installation space requirement (or close to it). So around 3gb of extra. (as common and lichking are close to it).

can you delete all the previous patch files without having any issues with the game after downloading this new patch?

Hmm, in my wow folder, in the updates folder, theres a few folders labelled stuff like wow 3.2.2 to wow 3.3.0 and its got files in there like wow-partial-1.MPQ that is 459 MB in size and wow-partial-2.MPQ that is 212 MB in size. They are dated 12-8-2009. Ok to delete those?

Yes, its okay to delete it. Just don't go delete happy on other items.

I would post a source link but it disallows me.

Downloaded the patch and have 5.8 GB of space left, but installation stops about 32% thru complaining there is not enough free disk space.

Any idea how much disk space I need to free up. I'm not really sure what else I can delete here, so I don't know if its a waste of time or not. Some of this stuff, honestly I'd rather keep and just cancel my WoW account.

get an 80 gig external harddrive install wow on it it should be big enough til you get something you can afford. only downside is wow will need to be completely reintalled so ur gonna be gone from it for a day or 2.

this is actually a hardware issue and kinda in the wrong topic catagory, i think.

Thanks but, as I said in the first post, I didn't want this thread to derail into people telling me to buy a new hard drive or new comp. I wanted to know how much disk space is required for this patch. I need to know this so I can delete as few things as possible and still get it installed.

Hard drives are like 40-50 bucks.

We're telling you this because it's the most logical step. :P

Well I've now freed up 10.7 GB on my 60 GB hard drive. The patch itself is already downloaded (about 5 GB). My world of Warcraft folder is now 22.8 GB. It still says there is not enough disk space to install. Its now eating up more than half my hard drive and still wants more.

If anyone can tell me how much hard drive space I need to install this, I'd really appreciate it.

i had the same problem i have my hard drive partitoned off and the programs only had about 6 gigs left on it. i had to remove sc2 which left we with 12g free and it was able to finish the install

i had same probleam when wow was on my drive and that had 16gb free space and it stopped at like 90%
    i was raging

I found a blue post regarding this issue this morning. The bolded part seems to be pertinent to this issue. Hopefully this will help anyone else like me dealing with lack of hard drive space. Basically it claims you must reinstall the game to avoid the problem:

    #####################################

    Greetings Fellow Patchers,

We wanted to stress one major point about the migration process that is occurring with World of Warcraft with this current patch. If you're getting errors about not having enough file size and are confused by this it's important to remember that everything in the game is being converted/patched on the fly. This means that the game will essentially DOUBLE in size of it's current install usage. So if you only have ~10-15GB free then you may run into these problems. In these situations the only way around this at this time is to completely remove the game and reinstall from the new installer. I'm going to place the instructions to ensure the game is completely removed below, along with re-installation instructions.

In order to remove World of Warcraft safely from your system, you will need to go into your Control Panel and use Add/Remove Programs. To do this, first go to the Start/Windows button, click Control Panel, and then double click on Add or Remove Programs.

-For Windows XP, you will have the add/remove programs option.
-For Windows Vista/7, you will have an uninstall/remove option under the "Programs" or "Programs and Features" section.

If the game is not listed in your Add/Remove Programs, or you receive an error during the uninstallation process, then you will have to manually uninstall the game by deleting the application directory where the program was installed. The default location is "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft". On Vista/7, this folder may also have been moved to "C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft".

You will also want to search your hard drive for any Warcraft related files and delete them, including your Temporary folders and the Blizzard Entertainment folder from the common files folder. These folders will normally be located at:

    C:\Windows\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\<YourName>\Local Settings\Temp
(Delete all files in these folders that you are able to. Some files may be used by other programs and not able to be deleted.)

    C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Blizzard Entertainment
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

    C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

    C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

Once uninstalled, please also remove the remaining World of Warcraft game folder if this has not been done already. Once all previous files have been removed, re-run the installer from the downloaded install files to reinstall the game.

To download the game software, please log into your World of Warcraft account page at https://us.battle.net/account/management/download/ . Select the appropriate PC or Mac download link and save this file to your system. It's best to save the file to your desktop

*** Note for Vista and Windows 7 users: Right clicking the downloader file and selecting "Run as administrator" is recommended instead of double clicking to prevent copying, saving or other permission issues with the downloader. ***

After the game is re-installed, please make sure to not reinstall any custom UIs unless they are updated for the most current release of the game.

Had to uninstall the beta to free up enough space. Said I had 20 gigs free prior to installation, but it failed at the end saying it didn't have enough space.

If I understand the blue post on this issue correctly, you'll need to free the size of your wow folder to safely patch this. (assuming you've cleaned the ancillary files like old patch data from that folder.) I guess your options are:

    1. have about 22 GB free on your hard drive for this patch.
    2. reinstall.

I have to say I am dissappointed in the mmo champion community on this issue as well. This is a real issue that a lot of people are having. Yet I got pretty much nothing but snarky responses. There's even a moderator named Synthaxx that was utterly unhelpful when he said:

I guess I expected more from this place. I hope at least I helped some other people regarding this issue.

    Another blue post regarding this:

Since the patch files have to decompress prior to being applied, you will need more space than the files wind up taking up.

If you are short on space, you can uninstall what you have and then install the game from the new game client. I did this last night and it only took up about 12G space total, and did not result in an extra install folder.

I had hard drive space issues as well. I started with about 12gb, but the install failed. So I cleared space until I had about 16.5gb free. I watched my space dwindle to about 6gb free when I began to take affirmative action by clearing out old pictures. I THINK it was starting to give space back on it's own at that point, but I managed to clear files while the install was still going and get back up to 12gb. When it finished, my free space shot up to 30gb.
