Tom Chilton:

I’d like to find a way to extend that at the very least to 10-person raids at some point in the future. There are a lot of complexities with making that work, but anything we can do to alleviate the annoyances or pains associated with players having to arrange their own groups would be great. Being able to extend that into raiding would be awesome if we could do it. (Talking about the successes of the Dungeon Finder implemented in 3.3)

If you look at the new Raid UI and you can see that they have some good basic utility to them for those that might not have a Raid addon installed. They have flares to mark where to go, a movable raid window, new settings built into the UI to show player resources (health, mana, etc) in the new grid, and more if they weren't already there.

But it wouldn't work without the new flexible Raid lockout system as well! What happens if you get together a 10man Raid Finder PuG and they ditch after the first boss? It would suck if you were locked to a Raid because of a fail PuG. Yet, new Raid lockout settings which allow for far more flexibility can prevent this. This will allow you to find Raid groups that need to take down the same boss as you, or perhaps you can even choose what boss to quene for given this new lockout system. It seems they are heading in this direction, and if you want to keep raiding to take on another boss perhaps you can?

It seems like Blizzard is building in the tools necessary, even this early, to necessitate a full blown Raid Finder version of the Dungeon Finder in game. It also seems likely this is going to be implemented in a future patch with Catacylsm. Perhaps this was also the reason for the new server update across all realms this year.
