Exactly what people have said. All three continents are separate instances, as are the places that were added in TBC: Isle of QD, Ghostlands, Bloodmyst Isle, etc. Anything that has to load is separate and can't be accessed without taking a flight (that ports) or a ship/zeppelin.
It's kinda like asking what happens if you fly to the east of EK or the west of Kalimdor - you will either die of fatigue or hit the edge of the "instance". Also, remember that the visual representation of the world is just that. It is not to scale in any real way.
