Like that stops anything? You obviously haven't played since the patch was released. I can't tell you how many times I saw people asking the following:
What happened to my arrows?
How do I see my guild info now?
Where do I get my flying license?
I have to pay 5k to fly in Northrend again?
Where'd all my portals/teleports go?
How do I summon my pet?
No sooner does someone answer, than someone asks the SAME question again. Trade chat on my server's been really quiet not because of the limit, because you can only /facepalm so much before you just leave trade.
i love it. my trade chat is retarded, it's cut down on the gold spam big time. and the trolls. not gotten rid of them, but it helps.
The chat filter is annoying me honestly. I'm no spammer, but I type quickly and when talking in trade chat, rather than writing one max character limit message, I'll break it up to make it easier to read.
I do like to help, I'll answer any question I know the answer too (and often those I don't ). It's harder now.
The other thing that bugs me, is like some other posters, I tend to correct my grammar and spelling. It's harder now.

should have been added a long time ago....EVERY other blizzard game that can be played online has this. why they just now decided to limit chat is beyond me
Personally, I hate it.
When I have to write in long sentences, they tend to become mishmash.
So I usually just type like this.
-You have exceeded the maximum amount you can enter. Please wait a short time before entering again.
...
...
I had BadBoy before anyway. So there were nothing called goldsellers in my world.
But now I can't even give out advise to more than one person at a time.
-You have exceeded the maximum amount you can enter. Please wait a short time before entering again.

Effectively crippling my actual advise.
Catch my point. Very annoying when you had a good antispamming addon beforehand.
Trade became less retarded after the patch.
Limiting trade chat is the 2nd best feature of this patch, removing weapon skill is the 1st .
Perhaps a possible plus side will be people advertising in proper channels?
Maybe?
No?

I have actually found this a bit annoying. I've been unable to answer noob questions (i always try to help the noobs) a few times because of this.
I like this idea of restricting spam, but frostmourne is one of those servers where you either leave /2 or get SpamThrottle.
"It turns out the only signature he needed was my fist! ... But with a pen in it ... that i was signing with."
I don't understand how typing really fast makes people hit the enter button more often. In general I've very glad that people might learn to think for a few seconds before hitting that enter button. Typing the first thing that comes into your head and mashing the enter key as fast as you can, not proofreading, not bothering to see if you were coherent, not bothering to see if you were complete makes for a bad poster on a forum or in chat. I can type pretty fast myself, and I do make spelling errors, and I do sometimes form incomplete thoughts, but I PROOFREAD what I write since I know once I hit enter I can't take it back.
So Trade chat throttle cuts down significantly on
ASCII macros
Annoying multiline seller Macros
People who spam their LFM, WG, etc macros
Players who have conversations in public chat channels
It also hinders players who don't think before they hit enter.
As a result trade chat doesn't need to be throttled as much and you can actually view information without it getting pushed out of your chat window within a couple seconds.
Win Win Win Win...
So much win.
Try whisper, it has always worked for me.
people still spam trade.
the throttle just pisses EVERYONE off.
Well, at least I've learned to whisper people's answers to questions in trade chat so I don't get hit by the restricted messages limit.
