That ogre female picture thats always being shown around actually isn't a female ogre

Turns out it was an early concept for trolls that never made into Warcraft I.

When Warcraft II was made and trolls debuted as ranged units rather then creeps, the final product was much different from the concept art and only males were seen until WoW.

Female trolls did show up finally in WoW, but like the males, they were completely different from the piece of Warcraft 1 concept art.

    Thank god, if thats true.

It still doesn't look anything like a troll, as far as the lack of tusks and the feet go. But thank god.

Thing is, Trolls in Warcraft should be savage and downright disguising (they wear ears, skulls and other body parts of their slain enemies as trophies). However in WoW, they were revamped as peaceful, Jamaican style peoples who (if not for the tusks) can easily be mistaken for taller (skinnier) Orcs or mutated humans (with rib problems).

It bears some similarity to the alpha version of female trolls though, minus that uh...crazy hair.

Yeah they hadn't decided on what Trolls would be, back when Warcraft I was being developed. They weren't even going to be a player unit, just an unusable creep obstacle.

They were probably going to be all female too, as usually the male is drawn first when Blizzard creates a race.

Keep in mind Warcraft I didn't even have elves, dwarves, or goblins. Only humans, orcs, and ogres showed up.

Well trolls were finally put in Warcraft II as a playable ranged unit for the orcs and they decided to go for a more slender as befitting of ranged units with little armor.

Only the Darkspear. The original trolls - The Amani, are pretty savage.

As kerwyn points out, there are several totally different troll tribes in the Warcraft universe. The Amani were the tribe featured in Warcraft 2, and later in Zul'Aman, whereas the playable trolls in Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft belong to the Darkspear tribe, a more peaceful tribe of trolls.
