It's all outside their base lore.

The Tauren were supposedly adherents to druidic and shamanistic balance, eschewing both Light and Shadow in favor of the neutrality of balance and nature.

If this were really accurate, then a Tauren paladin makes no more sense than a Tauren shadow priest. They may as well go ahead and offer the warlock class to Tauren.

I know that the Tauren paladin is sliding by lore-wise by saying they draw their power from the sun rather than the Light, but a Tauren shadow priest still seems odd to me.
