    The Classical Thread!

Can't believe one of these doesn't exist yet. I'm a lover of classical music and feel that the vast majority of it trumps modern music in regards to emotion, complexity, you name it. Just to start it off with some more well known ones for those who haven't really devled deeply into it.

    Bach - Cello Suite no. 1 in G Major - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwHpDOWhkGk
Bach - WTC no. 1 Prelude and Fugue in B flat major - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT5OLx9IPUk
    Bach - Brandenburg Concertos(just a small part) - no. 3, i: Allegro Moderato - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ9qWpa2rIg
Mozart - Requiem - Lacrimosa(just one part, the whole piece is massive) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfDe0Mv5PPc
Mozart - The Marriage of Figaro - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OZCyp-LcGw
    Mozart - Piano Concerto no. 21 - Andante - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df-eLzao63I
    Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQVeaIHWWck
    Beethoven - Symphony no. 5 - Allegro - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7pQytF2nak
    Beethoven - Fur Elise - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAsDLGjMhFI
    Vivalidi - Four Seaons - Winter - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRgaBqD2tmw
    Paganini - 24th Caprice - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPcnGrie__M
    Chopin - Nocturne - Op. 9 No. 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk
Chpoin - Nocturne - C-sharp Minor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cectrAqFSZQ (shameless Pianist plug, great movie)

That should give a good scope of various types of music coming from very well known composers. Post those that you like a lot! I'd like to see what the community can bring up.

Whilst I appreciate the thread, I'm sorry to see some really really overplayed pieces in there. Fur Elise in particular really irks me.

    Rachmaninov

A very very interesting piece where Gergiev gives a masterclass to three promising conductors. Scriabin, A Poem of Ecstacy. Unfortunately, it's only part of the documentary. Not sure if it's on Youtube in its entirety, but the Poem itself is worth a listen as well.

    Ravel

And speaking of well-known pieces: Grieg

I know that the ones I've listed are overplayed, but they're the "big names" in the genre, so those who don't know much about classical definitely need to start there. It'd be like introducing somebody to Rock 'n Roll without listing Elvis Presley or Buddy Holly.

And cheers for those links, all are fantastic.
